CHRISTMAS

PENHALIGON'S

nee Upon A Time it was the night before Christmas and the darkening

streets of London hid an in-visible cold. The streets were quite empty

now as the falling snow muffled the footsteps of any last passers-by.

From one window a light glowed. Behind the curtains, a door creaks hesitantly

ajar and from below the handle a mischievous face appears.

"Oh Mr Penhaligon, Mr. Penhaligon, when can we get back to work?"

A furtive glance about him (not a hat in sight!), and our favourite perfumer opens

wide the door from whence come tumbling a crew of elves. "Careful now" says

Mr Penhaligon to no one in particular, amidst the piles of perfume bottles and

ribbon. The opulent wrapping paper, beautiful bottles, candles and luxurious bows

give a joyously generous, if decadent, look to the shop.

Good gracious! A lantern outside! The elves run for cover. But the light fades

with the footsteps, and the elves resume their work. Instead, and to everyone's

happy surprise a rather round, bearded gen-tleman dressed in scarlet strolls in.

Through the door. Nodding to Mr Penhaligon, he points the elves to his sleigh.

'Ho, ho, ho ... ' and the reindeer shake their bells before setting off set off into

the night, presents stacked high.

To everyone's delight, Mr. Penhaligon appears with mince pies and sherry.

Happy Christ7nas to all!
