1 Manual of Arms Order Arms From the position of Attention and on The command of Order, ARMS, maintain the Position of Attention with the rifle. Place the butt of the rifle on the marching surface, centered on the right foot, with sight to the rear. Hand guard sits in “V” of thumb and forefinger. The fingers are straight together and the right hand is behind the rifle with the thumb along the trouser seem. Trail Arms Assumed for short distance movement or when facing movement is given from orders arms. Command is Trail, ARMS and is one count. On ARMS you raise the rifle straight up 3 inches keeping the wrist straight and your thumb still on the seam. On the command of Order, ARMS you lower the rifle back down. Manual of Arms

Order Arms

From the position of Attention and onThe command of Order, ARMS,maintain the Position of Attention withthe rifle. Trail Arms

Assumed for short distance movementor when facing movement is given fromorders arms. Command is Trail,ARMS and is one count. On ARMSyou raise the rifle straight up 3 incheskeeping the wrist straight and yourthumb still on the seam. On thecommand of Order, ARMS you lowerthe rifle back down.

Rest Position

The Rest Positions arecommanded and executedthe same as individual drillwith the followingadditions: On command ofexecution REST of Parade,REST, thrust the muzzleforward, changing the gripof the right hand to graspthe barrel, keeping the toeof the rifle butt on thesurface and the right armstraight.

Port Arms

Port Arms from Order Arms is atwo-count movement. Thecommand is Port, ARMS. Onthe command of executionARMS, grasp the rifle barrelwith the right hand and raisethe rifle diagonally across thebody, keeping the right elbowdown. With the left hand,simultaneously grasp thehandguard just forward of theslip ring so that the rifle is about4 inches from the waist.

Port Arms

On the count two, regrasp therifle at the small of the stockwith the right hand. Hold therifle diagonally across the body,about 4 inches from the waist,the right forearm horizontal,and the elbows close to thesides.

Order from Port

Order Arms from Port Arms is a threecount movement. The command isOrder, ARMS. On the command ofexecution ARMS, release the grasp ofthe right hand and move the right handup and across the body to the rightfront of the front sight assembly, graspthe barrel firmly without moving therifle, and keep the right elbow down.

Order from Port

On count two, move the left hand fromthe handguard and lower the rifle to theright side until it is about 1 inch fromthe surface. Guide the rifle to the sideby placing the forefinger of the left handat the flash suppressor, fingers andthumbs extended and joined, palm tothe rear.

Order from Port

On count three, move the left handsharply to the left side, lower the riflegently to the surface, and resume theposition of Order, Arms.

Right Shoulderfrom Order

Right Shoulder Armsfrom Order Arms is afour count movement.The command is RightShoulder, ARMS. Onthe command ofexecution ARMS,grasp the rifle barrelwith the right hand andraise it diagonallyacross the body,keeping the right elbow

Down. With the lefthand, grasp thehandguard just forwardof the slip ring,ensuring that theweapon is about 4inches from the waist.On count two, movethe right hand from thebarrel and grasp theheel of the buttbetween the first two

Order Arms from Right Shoulder ArmsOrder Arms from Right Shoulder Arms is a four countmovement. The command is Order, ARMS.

On the command of execution ARMS, without moving thehead and without changing the grasp of the right hand,press down quickly and firmly on the butt of the rifle withthe right hand and twist the weapon, guiding it diagonallyacross the body and about 4 inches from the waist.Grasp the rifle with the left hand at the handguard justforward of the slip ring.

Order Arms from Right Shoulder ArmsOn count two, move the right hand up and across thebody, approaching from the right front of the frontassembly, and firmly grasp the barrel without moving therifle.

Order Arms from Right Shoulder ArmsCount three and four are the same as from Port Arms toOrder Arms.

Left Shoulderfrom Order

Left Shoulder Arms fromOrder Arms is a four countmovement. The command isLeft Shoulder, ARMS.

On the command ofexecution ARMS, executePort Arms in two counts

Left Shoulderfrom Order

On count three, release thegrasp of the left hand andplace the rifle on the leftshoulder with the right hand.At the same time, regrasp therifle with the left hand withthe heel of the butt betweenthe first two finders and withthe thumb and forefingertouching. Left forearm ishorizontal and left upper armis against the side.

Left Shoulderfrom Order

On count four, move the righthand to the right size as inthe Position of Attention

Port fromLeft Shoulder

Port Arms from Left ShouldArms is a two countmovement. The command isPort ARMS.

On the command ofexecution ARMS, move theright hand up and across thebody and grasp the small ofthe stock

Port fromLeft Shoulder

On count two, release thegrasp of the left hand andwith the right hand move therifle diagonally across thebody about 4 inches from thewaist. At the same time,regrasp the handguard justforward of the slip ring withthe left hand.

Order from Left Shoulder

Order Arms from Left Shoulder Arms is a five countmovement. The command is Order, ARMS.

On the command of execution ARMS counts one and twoare the same as Port Arms from Left Shoulder Arms.

Left Shoulder from Port

Left Shoulder, Arms from Port Arms is a two countmovement. The command is Left Shoulder, ARMS. Onthe command of execution ARMS, execute Left ShoulderArms in the same manner as counts three and four fromOrder Arms.

Left Shoulder from Port

Left Shoulder, Arms from Port Arms is a two countmovement. The command is Left Shoulder, ARMS. Onthe command of execution ARMS, execute Left ShoulderArms in the same manner as counts three and four fromOrder Arms.

Inspection from Order

Inspection Arms from Order, Arms is a six count movement.The command is Inspection, ARMS.

On the command ofexecution ARMS,execute Port Arms in twocounts.

On count three move theright hand and grasp thebolt handle.

Inspection from Order

On count four, open the bolt and pull to the rear and lock inplace. At the same time, lower the head and eyes to check

the receiver. On countfive, raise the head andeyes back to the frontand regrasp the small ofthe stock with the righthand, assuming theInspection Arms position.

Ready, Port Arms from Inspection

Ready, Port, ARMS is the only command given fromInspection Arms.

On the command Ready,move right hand to thebolt handle. On thecommand Port, close thebolt by pushing it to thefront of the rifle and placethe forefinger on thetrigger. On the commandof execution ARMS. Pullthe trigger and come toport arms.

Present Arms from Order

Present Arms from Order Arms is athree count movement. The commandis Present, ARMS. On the commandof execution ARMS, execute Port Armsin two counts. On count three twist therifle with the right hand so that themagazine well is to the front and movethe rifle to a vertical position with thecarrying handle about 4 inches in frontand centered on the body. Lower rifleuntil the left forearm is horizontal.

Order from Present Arms

Order Arms from Present Arms is a fourcount movement. The command isOrder, ARMS. On the command ofexecution ARMS, return the rifle to PortArms. Count two, three and four arethe same as Order Arms from PortArms.
