The Clemens are coming! Step back in time and spend an afternoon with Mark Twain (Sam Clemens) and his loving wife Livy. The pair will talk of home, family, Sam's writing, and perhaps share a story or two of their great romance! Hear of some rather silly goings-on at the house, Livy's role as editor, and what it truly is like having Harriet Beecher Stowe as your neighbor. Kit Webb and Beth Avery work as Living History Interpreters at The Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Connecticut. You must register in the office as spaces are limited. Free and open to adults of all ages. This event is co-sponsored by The Storrs Library.

Would you like a weekly visit from a pair of Springfield College Occupational Therapy students who can help you with any projects or activities of your choice (organizing, labeling photos, learning/improving use of digital devices, developing a life-review to share with loved ones, crafts, games, learning a floor golf putting game, teaching old card games, cooking/ baking)? These students are also great listeners, and can just sit and chat, as well! Previous community adult participants have felt they gained two adopted grandchildren when they had their visitors. Weekly 1.5 - 2 hour visits go from February into May. If you are interested and/or have questions, please contact Professor Joan Simmons, Springfield College OT, 748-3692. A brochure can also be sent to you or picked up at the COA Center.

OPEN Tues. 10-12, Fri. 9-11 Message from Barbara Smith,
Food Pantry Manager
Happy New Year! As we make our way into 2020, I’d like to acknowledge the Longmeadow community for all of their work to make the holidays special. From food drives at all three elementary schools to turkey donations from Rachel’s Table, Care One at Redstone and FOLOCA, our food pantry was well-stocked and able to provide complete holiday meals for all of our pantry patrons. Members of the knitting club knitted personal care bags, scarves and dishcloths that were included in our annual holiday bags delivered to all Meals on Wheels recipients, and other Adult Center members donated treat bags and others items that were included in the bags. The Origami Club made fun holiday cards for each holiday and students from St. Mary’s made Thanksgiving cards that were distributed throughout the center. DPW employees donated time to help our kitchen staff make extra holiday meals for everyone receiving Meals on Wheels. Volunteer drivers delivered the extra meals and winter essentials bags to all of the recipients. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Adult Center community in 2019. Please contact me if you are interested in becoming involved in the coming year.

V!(!)/*<’ N!-<
Happy New Year! I have to begin this note to say how appreciative we are for the donations we received through the holidays. Care One at Red Stone, Rachel’s Table and FOLOCA provided us with Turkeys and fixings for all our pantry members. Also, Center School, Wolf Swamp School, Blueberry Hill School, and the Maternal Association held food drives to restock our shelves. And a special shout-out goes to Lily Tracy, a student at LHS, who again coordinated a food drive on our behalf at the last basketball game. The pantry volunteers have worked tirelessly to sort, restock and package food for our members. I am so grateful to our team that they all deserve mentioning: Elizabeth Irving, Elaine Weiner, Judy Baskin, Marta Leander, Camryn Boutin, Stephanie & Eugene Simmons, Lucy Mooney, Cory Odentz, and Joan McPartland. And last but not least is our own Erin Koebler who is the glue that pulls us all together to stay organized. Thank you so much for a great year and wishing you all a happy, healthy New Year.

The Adult Center daily activities and meals programs, including Meals on Wheels, follow the Longmeadow Schools closing for weather-related closures. If the
schools are closed due to inclement weather, there will not be meals or activities at the center for that day. If
there is a delayed opening at the schools, we will operate our regular 8 am—3 pm schedule. We suggest that Meals on Wheels recipients have a frozen back up meal to use
in case of inclement weather closings. You may also follow Channel 22 and Western Mass News for closing information. Stay safe and warm. Please register for all events that you plan to attend. This puts your name on a list, so we can call in case we have to cancel or reschedule! For any Questions about our Closing
Procedures, please call 565-4150.
