GALLESETOURISTIC GUIDE FOR CHILDREN

Gallese is a small medieval town,enclosed with high walls, built on a tophus hill,

in the province of Viterbo .

It is in a strategic area between high Lazio,Umbria and Tuscany, an area called Tuscia.

You can reach our town by car or by train. To enter the town you must trough a famous arch :

l’ Arco di Porta.

In our town there is an old, big Duke’s castle with towers, battlement walls and a drawbridge.

In front of the castle there is a big square called Piazza della rocca.

In the square there is a statue and an old beatiful fountain.

There are many small squares: in Matteotti square you can see an old famous fountain called

Fontana delle Tre Cannelle.

There are many alleys,the narrowest is large no more than a metre.

In our town there is a museum and a library. You can have music lessons and drawing activities in it.

In Gallese there are seven churches: the oldest one is Saint Famiano’s Basilica,

a church built in Romanesque style. There is Saint Famiano’s body, our Patron saint, in it.

Not far form the basilica there is a small church, called San Famiano a lungo, where you can drink holy water.

Gallese is surrounded by the countryside, green hills and woods, where you can walk, ride a bike or

have a picnic. It is an ideal place for nature and peace lovers.

Close to Gallese you can visit a WWF oasis, a scenic walk called il Giro del pappagallo, the Friar’s waterfalls, the

Love valley and the Devil’s rock.

Not far from Gallese (4km),along the river Tiber,there is Gallese Scalo:there you find the train station,

a car wash and many factories.

Close to Gallese, along the provincial road, there is the new part of the town, built during the last years.

You can eat good dishes in some restaurants or pizzerias:
