ACCOMPLISHMENTS  

• Led and co-sponsored a great deal of beryllium related research which led to several scientific advances in the

understanding of the beryllium disease

• Recommended formation and was a member of the beryllium industry Scientific Advisory Committee, the

leader in beryllium research

• Dramatically improved medical diagnosis and surveillance for beryllium disease

• Special health effects inspector on an International Atomic Energy Agency United Nations team for the 1991

Russian beryllium plant explosion and fire

• Developed a range of employee, customer, and public training programs

• Modernized the medical facilities at three major locations

• Coordinated activities with NIOSH, OSHA, EPA, and DOE concerning the health effects of beryllium with

resulted in modification to their positions on exposure standards

• Managed the medical staffs at four locations and acted as medical advisor to nine others nationally and

internationally

• Currently chairman, U.S. Department of Energy/ ORISE Beryllium Health Surveillance Committee, Oak Ridge,

Tennessee

• Consultant to atomic weapons establishment, Ministry of Defense, Aldermaston, England, for beryllium

exposure and medical surveillance

• Developed a very successful manage care program to control workers compensation costs

• Delta Omega Honorary Public Health Society Award 1965
