This is how towns start in Peru–they are known as invaders until officially recognized.

Chimbote is a city of many stages – from paved roads to donkeys pulling carts.

•Unidos Contra la Mortalidad Infantil, CMMB’s main focus in Peru, uses home visits and community workshops to educate expectant mothers and families about proper nutrition, identifying common childhood illnesses, and proper hygiene practices.

•Following the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) guidelines, CMMB trains community health workers to identify diseases and direct families to participating clinics to receive comprehensive care.

Every year in Latin America, more than half a million children die, one-third of their deaths attributable to five easily treated or preventable illnesses: respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, malnutrition, measles, and malaria.
