How I~II>()ltT,\YI' CIULlUm~ ARE IN 'rIU~EYI~SOI~JI~SLS!

There is a deep bond between God and child which produc- •es, in the child, a desire to draw near to Him. In the Catech-esis of the Good Shepherd, a faith formation program in-spired by the educational methods of Maria Montessori, children come to a specially prepared environment calledthe Atrium. This environment helps to nourish a child'shunger to draw near to Christ, the only Teacher; for bothchild and adult place themselves in a listening stance be-fore his Word and seek to penetrate the mystery of the li-turgical celebration. Pondering the mysteries of faith re-quires a "gift of time" in order to slow down and enjoy therelationship with God in a deeper and unhurried manner--to wonder at the meaning of the presence of God in theirlives! With the aid of special materials, children enjoymeditating upon the questions generated by the Scriptures. At St. Peter Church, we are fortunate to have a Level I andLevel II Atrium which nurtures this vital process of rela-tionship with God for children ages 3 to 9. If you are inter-ested in having your child(ren) participate in this program,a special registration form must be completed as well asattendance at an orientation meeting prior to the beginningof the religious education year which begins 011 Sept. 13.For more information or to schedule an orientation meet-ing, please contact Danuta Coble for Level I (3-6 yr. old)[email protected], or Emilia Benyo for Level II (6-9yr. old) at [email protected], August 23rd and 30th, have been set aside for therequired orientation meetings immediately following bothMasses.

Father Tuck Grinnell

Dear friends,

WHAT IS UNBOITND?Founded by lay Catholics, Unbound is an organization that has served more than 600,000 children, youth and elderly in 20 developing countries since 1981-empowering them to make more choicesin their lives, live with dignity and reach their potential.

Unbound's unique sponsorship program is highly personalized. It matches a child, youth or agingperson at project overseas with a sponsor in the U.S. who cares about and encourages that person. For about a dollar a day, a sponsor helps to provide much-needed nourishing food, medical anddental care, the chance for a child to go to school, livelihood programs for families and much more.

RI~GUon~I~IUNG Fon RI~I .•IGIOUS EJ)IJCArl~IONNow is the time for People to register for Religious Education. Families who have registered in thepast should receive the registration form byemail. If you are new or deleted the email, pick up theregistration form at the entrance of the church. There will be a special parent orientation for parentswho have children in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (grades pre-K-third grade). Be on thelookout for an announcement to set up the orientation.

NEXT WEEKEND, AUGUST 15·16, A SPECIAL COLLECTION WILL BE TAKEN UP

ON BEHALF OF OUR DIOCESAN MISSION IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

Through the years, our diocesan priests have built chapels and a school, provided a medical clinicand a pastoral center, operated the parish churches, assisted in the building of new homes, provided food and financial assistance to those in need, and educated the people in the Catholicfaith. None of this could be accomplished .without the prayers and financial support of theparishioners of the Arlington Diocese. Please prayerfully consider a generous contribution to thisappeal.
