Project Context
Park Hill Parks
Park Site
Park Hill NeighborhoodThe Park Hill neighborhood is considered a “park desert” where many residents have over a 10-minute walk to the nearest park. The Park at 29th and Fairfax will help alleviate this lack of access to public community and gathering spaces in the neighborhood.
What is a Pocket Park?A pocket park is a small, urban park that functionsprimarily as a neighborhood social area. They are approximately 0.5 to 1.5 acres in size and are primarily passive places with a limited number of small-scale areas for active use (such as playgrounds).
There are a number of public parks of similar size within the Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) system. Some examples include Ferguson Park (.26 AC), McClain Park (.33 AC), Flores Park (.36 AC), and Douglass Park (.51 AC).
Pocket park facilities can include picnic tables and shelters, playgrounds, basketball courts, memorials, public art, fountains, and more.
Project GoalsDPR is committed to working with the Park Hill neighborhood to deliver a high quality public park in an area with a shortage of public open spaces for the community to gather, recreate, and enjoy together. A successful project will include:
• Sustainable Design• Welcoming Atmosphere• Resilient Landscape• Community Gathering Place• Inclusive and Activated Park• Uniquely Park Hill Design
A Park for AllThe Park at 29th and Fairfax will be a public, city-owned park built and maintained by DPR and accessible to all.
