Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension,

Each year, during the month of September, we invite and encourage parishioners to consider becoming involved in some kind of parish ministry for the upcoming year. Last weekend, there was a handout in the bulletin (handout is still available in the back of the church and in the rectory) with a list of many of the ministries that take place here at Ascension. (This list is not exhaustive.) We do this in the month of September since most are back from vacation and many new people, including college students, are finding Ascension. We wish to give an opportunity to all those who wish to serve in some way. Last year we received a very positive response. We hope that will be the case again this year.

One of the reasons that being involved in parish ministry (volunteering) is so important is because it is a very beautiful way of giving back to God. Involvement in parish ministries is a way of thanking God for our blessings, jobs, and financial resources. We thank God not by simply sharing our treasure; we thank him by sharing our time and talent as well. We’d love to have you share your time and talent with our community. Please know that these forms are also available on our parish website as well. If you go to our parish website, there is a tab at the top of the homepage for Ministries and Parish Groups. We would encourage those who are able to please fill out this form electronically.

Our last financial update from the Finance committee was made

just about one year ago. The Finance Committee of the parish has

done much work as we continue trying to make our parish self-

sustaining. Three years ago we began the campaign: "WE CAN DO

IT TOGETHER." "WE ARE DOING IT TOGETHER," but we still

need some renewed encouragement from the Finance Committee.

While the Finance Committee is pleased with what we have done as

a parish over the past few years, we are still shy of what we need in

order to break even at the end of the year. Accountability and

transparency of our finances is absolutely crucial. The Finance

Committee plans to give an update and speak at all the Masses next

weekend.

Please continue to pray for all of the victims of our recent storms

and for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Mexico.

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión,

Cada año durante el mes de septiembre, invitamos y alentamos a

los feligreses a considerar involucrarse en alguna clase de

ministerio parroquial para el próximo año. El fin de semana

pasado había un volante en el boletín (todavía hay volantes en la

parte de atrás de la iglesia y en la rectoría) con una lista de

muchos de los ministerios que toman parte aquí en la Ascensión.

(Esta lista no es exhaustiva). Hacemos esto en el mes de

septiembre, ya que muchos han regresado de las vacaciones y

mucha gente nueva, incluyendo universitarios, están

reencontrando a la Ascensión. Deseamos dar la oportunidad a

todos aquellos que desean servir de alguna manera. El año

pasado recibimos una respuesta muy positiva. Esperamos que

éste sea el caso otra vez este año. Una de las razones que estar

involucrado en ministerios parroquiales (hacer de voluntario) es

tan importante es porque es una manera muy bella de ofrecerle o

devolverle a Dios. Participación en los ministerios parroquiales es

una manera de dar gracias a Dios por nuestras bendiciones,

trabajos y recursos económicos. Le damos gracias a Dios no

simplemente compartiendo nuestro tesoro; le damos las gracias

compartiendo nuestro tiempo al igual que nuestro talento. Nos

encantaría que usted compartiera su tiempo y talento con nuestra

UPCOMING EVENTS

Put Your Faith in Action- Support the Homeless Shelter

The Holy Trinity-Ascension Shelter has opened for the season

and will run each weekend until late Spring at Ascension

School. Each Saturday and Sunday evening a team of volun-

teers provides meals, a safe place to sleep and friendship to up

to 20 homeless men. The guests that come to our shelter are

fully independent, many are employed, and they are in transi-

tion seeking housing. Volunteers are invited to join the team as

cooks, overnight hosts, set-up crews, and greeters. This is a

great opportunity for families or friends to engage in service

together. Parishioners are also invited to provide financial sup-

port for the shelter. Again this year we will have parish wide

clothing collections in the winter months. You can sign up to

student seeking service hours and want to volunteer contact

Nuestro refugio de Holy Trinity y Ascensión ha abierto para

esta estación, y opera en nuestra escuela Ascensión cada fin de

semana hasta el fin de la primavera. Cada noche de sábado y

domingo un grupo de voluntarios ofrece cena, un lugar seguro

para dormir, y amistad a hasta 20 hombres sin hogar. Los

huéspedes que vienen a nuestro refugio son hombres con or-

gullo, muchos tienen trabajo, y están en transición buscando

un nuevo hogar.

Voluntarios son bienvenidos a unirse al equipo como cocineros,

anfitriones nocturnos, encargados de arreglo, y saludadores. Es

una oportunidad excelente para familias o amigos servir juntos.

Feligreses están también bienvenidos a dar apoyo financiero al

refugio. De nuevo este año, vamos a tener colecciones de ropa

en el invierno.

As a result of the DACA decision handed down on September 5th, we are all keenly aware of the fact that the DACA recipients need our support and prayers now more than ever. To that end, we will have an all night prayer vigil next weekend. This will begin on Friday evening, September 29th with a Healing Mass celebrated by Fr. Adriano. Following the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed. The Sacrament will remain exposed all night. We will finish this DACA Prayer Vigil on Satur-day morning, September 30th, at 7:00 AM with Benedic-tion. All are invited to come and prayer for these young men and women.

Como resultado de la decisión de la DACA dictada el 5 de sep-tiembre, todos somos muy conscientes del hecho de que los des-tinatarios de la DACA necesitan nuestro apoyo y oraciones ahora más que nunca.
