Problem solving

In maths this week we have been trying to solve problems SYSTEMATICALLY.

Being systematic means that you solve a problem in an organised way. You think about how you will set out your work and make sure you have tried ALL of the possibilities. Have a look at how we got on…

• We had 4 counters• We had a cup and a

hoop• You got 10 points if a

counter was in the cup

• You got 5 points if a counter was in the hoop

• You got no points if a counter was outside the hoop

How did we get on?

• Did we find every possible way to do it?

• Could we have set it out better?

• Could you improve on our work?

• Tell us what you think in a comment

• How many ways could you score with 5 counters instead of 4?
