INTRODUCTION

Electric power from a generating station is transmitted to grid substations using a three-phase distribution system.

At the grid substation, a step-down transformer is connected across two of the three phases of the high-voltage supply.

The transformer lowers the voltage to 25 kV which is supplied to a railway feeder station located beside the tracks

Power Supply is used for signalling operation, communication equipment, station and buildings, etc

Receive electrical power from TNB, transform it to the required voltage and distribute it to electric trains continuously along the railway.

132Kv/25Kv Power Transformer

This transformer is installed in a traction sub-stations along side the rail track and is used to feed 25KV.

AC power to railway electric locomotives. It will receive from TNB Power Supply 132 and reduce the voltage to 25 Kv using the transformer.

Circuit Breaker 132/25 Kv

A circuit breaker in a substation is a form of protection, designed to break fault current (the large volume of current that flows when a fault is detected.

A protection device used to protect equipment from damage and people from dying, that may be in contact.

Circuit Switchgear 25 Kv

A switchgear has the main function of protecting a circuit. This also provides the isolation of circuits from power supplies thus protecting the people working.

To maintain it and enhancement of the system availability by allowing more than one electric current source to flow through a load.

Isolator / Disconnector

To ensure that an electrical circuit is completely de-energised for service or maintenance.

High-voltage isolation switches are used in electrical substations to allow isolation of apparatus such as circuit breakers, transformers, and transmission lines, for maintenance.

Voltage & Current Transformer

Used for measurement of alternating electric currents. When current in a circuit is too high to apply directly to measuring instruments.

A current transformer produces a reduced current accurately proportional to the current in the circuit.

Control & Protection Panel

To control and protect all equipment in the modular buildings

Consist of relays, cabling, metering panels, battery and other equipments inside the panels.

Prefabricated Modular Building

Consist of equipment, protection panel, battery room, RTU cabinet, comm’s rack, circuit breaker, disconnector.

Located at each Feeder Station (FS) along the railway track and also Mid Point Track Section Location (MPTSL), DFL & TCBL.

Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)

Brain to the equipments inside Modular Building and at the trackside. For communication at the trackside.

Install at each Feeder Station (FS) along the railway track and also Mid Point Track Section Location (MPTSL), DFL & TCBL.

An overhead line or overhead wire is used to transmit electrical energy to the trains.

Electric trains that collect their current from overhead line use a device such as a pantograph

It presses against the underside of the lowest overhead wire, the contact wire.

Current collectors are electrically conductive and allow current to flow through to the train and back to the feeder station

As the contact wire makes contact with the pantograph, the carbon insert on top of the pantograph is worn down.

On straight track, the contact wire is zigzagged slightly to the left and right of centre at each successive support so that the pantograph wears evenly

Dropper wires provide physical support of the contact wire without joining the catenary and contact wires electrically.

OCS Mast

Erected to convey REW wire and contact and catenary wire.

A soil test will be carried out first then an auger machine will drill a hole to required depth.

They will check before mast been put and lastly concreting work to strengthen the mast.

Pre-Wiring

Consist of aluminum tube with clip and bracket used to hold the

contact and catenary wire.

Also attached with insulator to divide the contact system into some unattached electrical departments.

Wiring

Used to supply electricity power to the train.

Consist of contact & catenarywire attached at cantilever.

Made from copper wire cause it is a good conductor.

A wiring train that have a drum cable will be used in this activity.

Registration

After finish install pre wiring and wiring work, a team will do registration works.

They will check the height and stagger and all bracket were tighten to ensure that everything install smoothly.

Dropper Wire

Dropper wires traditionally provide physical support of the contact wire without joining the contact and catenary wires electrically.

Balance Weight

Catenary wires are kept at a mechanical tension because the pantograph causes mechanical oscillations.

The wave must travel faster than the train to avoid producing standing waves that would cause wire breakage.

By using balance weight and tensioning the line will makes waves travel faster.

Drop Tube

Usually installed at station where mast cannot be used to hold the wire.

Made from steel structures to give more stability to hold contact & catenary wire.

APC Magnet

The APC magnet instructs an electric locomotive to open the circuit breaker and switch back afterwards.

Ease of installation and de-mounting of this super-strength low-maintenance magnet saves significant time and money.

Motorised Isolator RTU

To isolate an electrical section

High-voltage isolation switches are used in electrical substations to allow isolation of apparatus such as circuit breakers and transformers, and transmission lines, for maintenance.

Neutral Section

Short insulated dead overhead equipment separating sectors fed by two adjacent substations which are normally connected to different phases.

The neutral section is a dead zone and therefore, the locomotive has to negotiate the section in momentum.

The locomotive is switched off while negotiating the neutral section to avoid flash over.

Track Bonding

Current discharge path to track to prevent imbalance current.

All equipment attached to the rails shall be designed to withstand the currents and voltages associated with the electric traction current

INTRODUCTION

Signalling is a device by which the movement of the train is controlled.

Purpose of Signalling:

Operating rail traffic, safely, speedily and economically

Increasing line capacity

Providing systems on safe principles

Preventing conflict movement on trains

Signalling cable

- To connect all equipments to the

trackside. Power supply cable consist of 4 Core (6mm) diameter.

Point Machine

- An electro mechanical device attached

to turnouts to provide remote operation capability, thus allowing different routes for trains to be set.

Automatic Train Protection

- A safety system comprises of track

mounted equipment which relays speed information to the train equipment and the drivers cab.

Axle Counter

- A detection point comprises two

independent sensors, detect the direction of a train by the order in which the sensors are passed.

- Foundation for Signalling equipment

Track Circuit

- To detect the condition of the track

segment which is occupied or not. Consist of a power supply & the system works under all weather condition.

- Carries signal lights unit consisting

one or more aspects. Made of steel structures.

Signal Head

- Signal head consist of red, yellow &

green lights. Gives the train driver necessary order & warning about the track.

- Control signalling equipments at

trackside but with many equipments. Consist of relays, terminal rack & power supply.

Level Crossing

- A safety barrier to stop all the traffic

and clear the track so train can pass by. Consist of traffic light and barrier also with alarm sound.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

- For back-up if there is a power failure

and to avoid any interruptions on the systems traffic. Consist of Power Module & Battery Module.

- To monitor all equipments, detect any

INTRODUCTION

The primary purpose of the communications system is to rapidly transport data and voice signals for particular subsystems between passenger stations and halts, operational facilities, electrification facilities and CTC.

The secondary purpose is to present information to various end-users in desired formats.

Digital Transmission System comprises 24-core fiber optic cable system to be installed along the railway route. All voice and data traffic throughout the system is carried within this DTS.

The system will provide free-format information on the running of trains. This information will be displayed in key areas of stations and halts
