Introduction
Buildsafe’s System Scaffold is a temporary working platform which provides protection for a person installing trusses, cladding, fascia, gutter, plasterboard as well as general construction work for both commercial or residential buildings. The Scaffold can also provide a safe means of access to different working heights.
Ladder access is provided within the system, allowing for easy access to and from the Work-ing Platform.

SYSTEM SCAFFOLD - CONNECTION/STRUCTURE
NO GO / EXCLUSION ZONESVICTORIADomestic/low voltage power lines – Less than 4.6mhorizontally and 5m verticallyIndustrial/high voltage power lines – Less than 8m all round
QUEENSLANDDomestic/low voltage power – Less than 3m all roundIndustrial/high voltage power lines – Less than 6m all round
NSWAny work within 4m of ALL power lines need referral to thenetwork operator for any special conditions which need to becomplied with.
If you are required to work within these distances ensure the client has sort advice from the power supply company (e.g. Energex - QLD) and has acted on advice given prior to beginning the installation/dismantle.
1. Has the system been erected within the electrical “No Go Zones/Exclusion Zones”?
2 x a
a = Depthof Trench
2. Is the Scaffold erected a safe distance away from trenches or excavations?
Scaffold must not be installed within a distance of 2 x the depth of a trench. Installing a Scaffold within this distance could cause the side of the trench to corrode and the Scaffold to collapse.

Edge Protection by Scaffolding fitted with Platforms accessible from the struc-ture
(a)The minimum width of the Scaffold Platforms must not be less than 450mm.(b) The Scaffold Platform Edge must not be greater than 225mm horizontally distant
from the building Platform or Slab Edge.(c) The Scaffold Platform Edge must not be greater than 300mm vertically above or
below the building Platform or Slab Edge.

Check the following:• there should be a Sole Board where ever a Screw Jack does not land on concrete/solid
ground.• the Screw Jack needs to be placed in the centre of the Sole Board.• the Sole Boards needs to be on a flat and even surface.
5. Are all Jacks centered on Sole Boards?

All Ledger and Transom pins need to be secured, the pins are secured and locked when the pin is wedged as shown below.
Unsecured Secured
6. Are Standards plumb throughout the installation?
7. Are Ledgers level throughout the installation?
All Standards need to be plumb throughout the entire Scaffold install. The Ledgers need to be level throughout the entire install.

When installing Decks to a height greater than 4m for the next Working Platform ensure that the Scaf-fold has been Braced correctly and the Scaffold has been Tied In, Buttress Bays or Outriggers have been installed. Do not allow a Scaffold to free stand more than 4m above the ground without Tying in, Buttress Bays or Outriggers being installed.
8. Are the Ties correctly positioned and correctly fixed?
9. If the Scaffold is to be utilised for “Fall Protection” extra support will be required such as Ties to the structure, Buttress Bays or Outriggers. Has this been done?
10. If the Bay width is 1200mm the max Platform height is 4000mm (2 Lifts) after this the Scaffold will require Ties to the structure, Buttress Bays or Outriggers. Has this been done?

11. If Scaffold runs onto roof, are 1200mm or 1500mm Sole Boards being utilised to span trusses?
When Scaffold runs onto roof 1200mm or 1500mm Sole Boards must be utilised to span the trusses allowing the wheight to be disrtibuted evenly into the main structure.

SYSTEM SCAFFOLD - PLATFORMS
Decks are supported by Ledger Transom, the feet hook over the Transom. The space be-tween individual decks must not be greater than 10mm.

The Deck to the left is sitting in place correctly.
Ensure the gap between the Scaffold Decks is not greater than 10mm.

Ensure Toeboards are installed the entire way around the Working Platform. ToeBoards must be installed to all Working Platforms that are over 2 meters.
12. If the Working Platform is above 2 meters have Toe Boards been installed?

• Face and End Braces are installed no greater than 500mm apart in a zig zag formation starting in the bottom outside edge of the Scaffold continuing all the way up to the top Working Platform.
• Face Braces are only required on one end of the Scaffold because the Scaffold is only two Bays wide. Ensure the Face Braces are installed to the same Bay as the End Braces.
• Face Braces are required at each end of the Scaffold and on every fourth Bay.• End Braces are required on the end of the scaffold

14. Are all Step Ups 500mm or less? If not, has a Stop End been installed to eliminate the fall hazard?
Platforms that are stepped greater than 500mm will require a Guardrail to be to installedor intermediated Steps installed.
Less than 500mm

• Outriggers or Ties are not required if the System Scaffold height does not exceed three times the least Base dimension.
• If System Scaffold height is greater than three times the least Base dimension, Outriggers, Ties or an extension of the least base width will be required.
• Ensure the tops of the Outriggers are attached to Standards greater than half the height of the working measured from the ground to the Working Platform height.
• Only two Outriggers can be used when the System Scaffold has been installed up next to a structure as shown in the illustration .
• In this situation both the Outriggers and the structure would prevent the System Scaffold from falling over.

15. If the bay width is 700mm the max Platform height is 2000mm (1 Lift) after this the Scaf-fold will require Ties to the structure, Buttress Bays or Outriggers. Has this been done?

SYSTEM SCAFFOLD - ACCESS AND EGRESS
16. Is there a safe Access and Egress Point to the System Scaffold?
17. Is the Access Platform height less than 500mm maximum allowable step up?
18. If utilised, is the Access Ladder positioned at an angle between 70° - 80° (4:1 ratio)?
There must always be a safe Access and Egress Point to the System Scaffold. The Access and Egress Plat-form must not be greater than a hieght of 500mm maximum step up. All ladders utilised at the Access and Egress Points must be positioned at an angle between 70° - 80° (4:1 ratio).

SYSTEM SCAFFOLD - SIGNAGE
• The System Scaffold must have a Handover Certificate at the Scaffold Access Point. • Handover Certificate must be completed and fixed in a pouch next to the Access Point. • If the System Scaffold has been altered or re-installed a new Handover Certificate must
be issued.
19. Has the “Handover Certificate” been positioned at the access point on the Scaffold Sys-tem?20. Does the “Handover Certificate” outline the load capacity of the Scaffold System?
21. Is there a Scaffold build plan inside the Handover Pouch? (Qld only)

SYSTEM SCAFFOLD - SIGNAGE CONTINUED
The System Scaffold install requires Signage to be considered compliant and also for marketing purposes. Buildsafe takes great pride in the products we offer which is why all installations must have a Buildsafe sign installed.
“We want the world to know who we are and what we do.”
Scaffold Incomplete Sign must be attached at the Access Point when Scaffolding is deemed incomplete and dangerous to use.
The Large Buildsafe Sign is to be attached to Ledgers or Transoms in the most visible location.
