Exercise 1: Create Virtual Machine Manager ServiceAccount

Objectives

In this exercise, you will:

Create a service account which will be used to run the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM)

Service

Pre-requisites

Ensure that the lab setup described in the Lab setup portion of this document is

completed

Scenario

You need to install Virtual Machine Manager and create a service account for the VMM

Service

Task 1: Create Virtual Machine Manager Service Account

1. Log on to the VMM virtual machine using the following credentials:

a. Username: DC1\Administrator

b. Password: Password1

Note: This can be done through either RDP (recommended) or Hyper-V Management

console.

2. ClickStart > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers.

3. Create the SCVMM_SA account as shown in Figure 2.

Note: Making VMM service account a Domain Administrator account is not a securitybest practice.

The only reason to make the VMM service account a Domain Admin is to expedite thetime it takes to complete the labs.

The best practice would be to add the VMM service account to the local administratorgroup of the VMM server.

check box in the System Center 2012 installation screen.

1. ClickStart > Administrative Tools > Failover Cluster Manager.

1. If you have not already done so, minimize the VMM console on Node 1.

2. ClickStart > Administrative Tools > Failover Cluster Manger.

Objectives


Uninstall Virtual Machine Manager for the highly available environment

Pre-requisites


Scenario

Since you are not able to use the highly available VMM install option for this class, you

need to uninstall this instance of VMM.

Task 1: Uninstall SCVMM 2012 from Node 1

1. On SCVMM 2012 Node1, clickStart > Control Panel > Programs (Uninstall a

Program).

2. In Programs and Features, select Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine

Manager.

Install System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager to a standalone server

Pre-requisites

Ensure that Exercises 1-7 of this module have been completed and you performed the HA

VMM exercises

If you have not created a HA VMM, then complete Exercise 1

Task 1: Install System Center 2012 Virtual Machine on the SCVMM Virtual

Machine

1. Log on to the SCVMM virtual machine.

This can be done through either RDP (recommended) or Hyper-V Management console.

2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\LabFiles\Programs\SCVMM 2012 RTM.

3. Run Setup.exe.

4. In the System Center 2012 installation screen, clearGet the latest updates to Virtual

Machine Manager from Microsoft Update.

Pre-requisites

Ensure that Exercises 1-7 of this module have been completed and you performed the HA

VMM exercises

If you have not created a HA VMM, then complete Exercise 1

Task 1: Create a Run As Account

1. Open VMM console in the SCVMM virtual machine.

In the Connect to Server dialog, connect to localhost:8100 using your current Microsoft

Windows session identity.
