Centring, predrilling, fi nish drilling – a FEIN core bit combines all of these steps

Unlike twist drilling, core drilling only involves machining a narrow ring and not the entire drilling surface, which requires much less feed force. This means that the core drilling unit consumes less power, putting less pressure on the user, core bit and the tool. The combined centring and ejector pin automatically ejects the drill core once you have broken through the material. You can core

bit a diameter of up to 80 mm in material up to 50 mm thick in just one step. You can also drill overlapping holes, for slots, for example, and offset holes.

All of this makes core drilling an extremely cost-effective drilling process – it’s faster, more precise and saves more energy than twist drilling.

The already high magnetic holding force of the electromagnet is automatically increased when drilling is started. This is a basic requirement if the full power of the tool is to be converted into work effi ciency.

The FEIN QuickIN allows you to change tools in a fl ash. One click and the tool is in the perfect location. No need for wrenches, no need to adjust the drill position and no need to re-centre.

Their compact design and optimum power-to-weight ratio make FEIN core drilling units the ideal tool for mobile twist drilling, thread cutting, counter-sinking and reaming.

The speed-controlled tacho electronics enable even, rapid work progress even at high loads.

A safe application: core drilling with FEIN.FEIN core drilling units aren’t just extremely durable, powerful, precise and cost-effective, they’re also among the safest tools on the market thanks to their extensive safety concept. From easy-to-use switches, an electronic magnetic force booster, a visual holding force display, “Viseo touch pad” operation, a robust contact and swarf guard and electronic overload protection to the torque slipping clutch for the automatic drill feed, all the safety systems share one purpose: to make working with FEIN core drilling units as safe as possible. For any application in any location.

SAFETY

The core drilling unit must be secure if you are to core bit successfully. This can only be achieved if the magnetic foot is placed on an even and clean workpiece that is at least 12 mm thick. If this is not the case, you risk losing a considerable amount of the magnetic holding force.

Operator Core drilling unit and tool

Restart lock Prevents the tool from starting up independently and unexpectedly if power is suddenly restored.

Electronic magnetic holding force

The electronic magnetic holding force is increased when drilling starts for even better operational safety.

Reduced voltage when the drill motor is inactive prevents the coils from overheating.

Soft start Sufficient response time to adjust to the core drilling unit. The operator won’t be surprised by the machine starting at full power.

The KBM 32 Q allows you to core bit with a diameter of between 12 and 32 mm. KBM 50 QX – Core drilling unit with two-speed transmission for efficient on-site drilling.

The KBM 50 QX covers an extended area of application. Its mechanical two-speed transmission supplies enough torque to core bit with diameters of up to 50 mm. Two electronic speed levels enable reaming and countersinking and also provide a drilling function for hard materials. The KBM 50 QX is one of the lightest tools in its segment – and can therefore be used vertically and overhead with ease.

KBM 52 U – Universal core drilling unit for flexible on-site working.

The KBM 52 U is the first choice for users requiring a universal range of applica-tions and high flexibility. The light two-speed tool with MT 3 holder, clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation and electronic speed reduction allows for thread cuts of up to M 16. The speed that was used last is automatically saved and can be called back up for the next drilling process. In addition to the application-oriented core drilling unit range, FEIN also offers you an extensive range of core bits. In addition to highly durable and powerful carbide core bits, it also includes HSS core bits with a 5% cobalt content that are extremely resistant to impact and shock. FEIN carbide core bits are primarily used in continuous operation, in serial drilling work in industry, workshops and manual trades, for example.

As long as they are handled properly, carbide core bits have a tool service life that is up to double that of HSS core bits and are there-fore the most cost-effective solution for this area. FEIN HSS core bits are mainly used on the construction site and for on-site installa-tion work – particularly if the core bit is exposed to high shock and impact loads.

Whether they’re magnetic or not, there’s a FEIN clamping fixture for every purpose.

FEIN offers alternative clamping fixtures for materials and workpieces with which the core drilling unit’s electromagnet cannot be used. These range from a suction plate for non-magnetic materials like stainless steel or aluminium and a vacuum plate for e.g. chequered metal or bulb plate, which is used in conjunc-tion with a vacuum pump to a fixture for drilling pipes with a diameter of between 60 and 300 mm.

Electric thread cutting is much more precise, faster and requires less effort than working by hand. This particularly applies to thread cutting with FEIN core drilling units. Their large stroke range enables tool changes without having to remove the core drilling unit from the workpiece – and without having to realign or recentre the thread cutter when it is fitted. Their individually ad-justable, electronic speed reduction and the handwheel-controlled infeed allow for smooth and precise working. When thread cutting in blind holes, special thread cutting inserts

with an integrated safety clutch prevent the drill from jamming and breaking in the hole.

FEIN thread cutting inserts are coordinated to the cor-responding area of application depending on the thread type and thread drill in accordance with DIN 374/376. They are characterised by different inner diameters for a round shank and a square.

COUNTERSINKING

FEIN core drilling units are characterised by their versatility. They are ideal for all work on completed drill holes, such as deburring or creating profiled or flush offsets. We would particularly recommend deburring and if necessary sinking the drill hole for screw and rivet connections. Only then will screw heads, nuts or rivets sit exactly on the workpiece surface.
