30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 27, 2019 participate in any “Listening Event” to give their feedback about where the Archdiocese is today. In today’s bulletin is a list of “Listening Events” as to time and place to which all are invited and Archbishop Hebda will be in attendance at each event. Plan to attend one if you can and please pray for a healthy outcome of these events. After these events, in the spring/summer of 2020, Archbishop Hebda will announce the focus of the Synod by announcing the topics he derived from the Listening Events. During the fall of 2020, we will meet on the parish level to provide feedback to the deanery level on the synod topics that will then be addressed at the Archdiocesan Synod Pentecost Weekend, 2021. All this information is spelled out in the last pages of today’s bulletin. We have seven parish Ambassadors, Doug Anderson, Barbara and Jerry Kassanchuk, Sarah Schrandt, Jennifer Hilderbrand, Martha Franco and Stephen Kattie who are being trained to guide us in this process. Today we will begin to pray the Synod Prayer at the end of the Prayers of the Faithful at all our weekend Masses. Every Friday Saint Olaf offers Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel from 12:30 PM until 5:00 PM. It has come to my attention that at times the Blessed Sacrament has been left without adorers. I know the importance of having Adoration and do not want to have to eliminate this precious time for our downtown community. Having Jesus present for prayer in the Blessed Sacrament is powerful for individuals and the community. We are considering having a signup sheet for the mid-afternoon hours to assure that someone is present with Jesus. More information will be forth coming. Please stop in for a visit Friday afternoons and if no one is there when you are leaving, please alert the Reception Desk in the Foyer. Have you ever desired to walk in the footsteps of Saint Paul? I am considering leading a tour to Greece November 2020. Collette Travel has contacted me and we have set a time aside for November 4th through the 14th. The cost is just under $3,000.00 for airfare, hotel and most meals. This trip also includes a 3-night cruise of the magical Greek Islands of Mykonos, Patmos and Santorini. For more information you can go to: Greece: In the Footsteps of the Apostle Paul - https://www.gocollette.com/en/tours/ europe/greece/greece-in-the-footsteps-of- paul-the-apostle. If you are interested, please let me know and we will plan an information session with David from Collette to walk us through the trip’s information. What a wonderful “Homecoming Weekend” we are enjoying! Please delight in the Polish Sausage Dinner or Morning Pancakes this weekend. Saint Olaf is a “Blessed” place to be. I hope you have been able to travel around the city or to the outskirts and see the beautiful colors that encompass us. Autumn is a favorite time for many because of the cool days and the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. The only drawback to this time of year is the noticeable shortening of the day light. May we enjoy these days while we have them and relish the fact that we live in an area of the country that truly enjoys four season of the year. Change is never easy and oftentimes is accompanied with struggles. The Church experienced its own struggles over these past years and the Archdiocese has been tangled in these struggles. We have come through the bankruptcy process and now we, as an Archdiocese, are looking towards the days and years ahead to forge an improved direction. On the Vigil to Pentecost this year, Archbishop Hebda announced formally that our Archdiocese would be embarking on a synod. A synod is a formal representative assembly designed to help a bishop in his shepherding of the local Church. The process will take about two years and involve every parish and any Catholic who would like to be involved to help prioritize the pastoral needs and direction of the Archdiocese today and into the future. This fall the pre-synod process takes us to “Listening Events” that are being held throughout the Archdiocese. All Catholics are invited to ST.
