SYNAPSE Report 16 schools participated in the 9th annual inter-school science symposium SYNAPSE. The day started at 8 AM with Vasant Valley students from classes 8 - 12 along with students from various schools and teachers assembling in a meeting for Dr.Mahapatra’s talk. Dr. Mahapatra is the assistant director and publisher of the American Chemical Society. He joined us from Washington DC and spoke about the importance of science education and the role of students, especially at the present time. There were interesting questions after the session. It was a great learning experience. There were activities planned for each of the classes from 6 to 10. These activities were conducted in five different meeting rooms. Tambola(For Class 6 students) An adaptation of the party game Tambola to test the knowledge of the participating students in the field of Science. Visual JAM (Just A Minute) (For class 7 students): Each student was shown a digital image, with a scientific principle. They got three minutes time to prepare and then they spoke for one minute. The judgement was based on the correct identification of the principle along with content of their speech. Video Challenge (For class 8 students): The task was to create a short video in an engaging and creative way to explain any scientific concept through an experiment. Panel discussion (For class 9): The topic for the panel discussion is ‘Assessment of Internet of Things’ (IoT) - Risks vs Ease. A storyline on this topic and the link for a video clip was shared with the participants on 22nd July, 2020. Students were divided into groups of four to form four panels. Each panel got one hour time to prepare for a presentation. Each panel got 10 minutes time to present their discussion. Quiz (For class 10): The online preliminary round was held on Friday, 24th July, 2020. Four best team were selected for the final round. The final round was a visual round conducted by Aditya Kapur. At 12:30 PM the students and teachers assembled in a meeting for result declaration. Mrs.Purie declared the results.

Society (ACS), where he has been since 2007.
