Mitchell, M.D. Chairman, Department of Surgery University of Mississippi Medical Center Dr. Mitchell completed his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia where he graduated Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. After completing his residency training at the University of Mississippi in Jackson, he went on to successfully complete a fellowship in vascular surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Mitchell served as a member of the military until 1995 where he achieved the rank of Commander in the United States Navy. He joined the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine faculty in 1998 and from 2000 - 2005 he served as chief of surgery of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In May 2005, he was appointed to his present position as chief of vascular surgery at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Mitchell is boarded in general surgery, surgical critical care and vascular surgery. He is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American Association for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery and the Andrew Glenn Marrow Cardiovascular Surgical Society. Congratulations to Dr. Catherine Preissig and Dr. Benjie Christie Dr. Preissig's abstracts were accepted for the 6th World Congress on Pediatric Critical Care held March 13 - 17, 2011 in Sydney, Australia Dr. Benjie Christie passed his Surgical/CCBoards. Dr. Christie was our first surgical fellow at the Medical Center of Central Georgia

Dr. Mitchell completed his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia where he graduated Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine.
