The Teachers Subhana Barzaghi Roshi is a Zen Buddhist and Insight Vipassana Meditation teacher. She is a resident teacher of the Sydney Zen Centre, and founder of the Kuan Yin Meditation Centre in Lismore. Subhana has 40 years experience in Buddhist meditation practice and leads intensive retreats throughout Australia, New Zealand and India. Gillian Coote Roshi is a resident teacher of the Sydney Zen Centre. She first met Robert Aitken Roshi in 1980, then attended his annual sesshin in Sydney, and training periods and sesshin in Hawai’i. She has been involved with sangha building since the early 1980’s and is a social documentary filmmaker, writer, grandmother and bush regenerator. Paul Maloney Roshi began his Zen studies in the late 1950s. He spent five years in Japan from 1968-1973. In 1975 he and others formed the Sydney Zen Centre. He began formal koan study with Robert Aitken Roshi in 1979, and continued with John Tarrant Roshi and Subhana Barzaghi Roshi. He is the resident teacher of the SZC Blue Mountains group, and visiting teacher of the SZC Canberra Group. Diamond Sangha Teachers Also associated with SZC are Diamond Sangha Teachers Maggie Gluek, Allan Marett and Jeff Ward.
The Sydney Zen Centre Sydney Zen Centre is Australia’s original Zen Buddhist community. It is a lay group, affiliated with the Diamond Sangha, a world-wide network with centres in the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand founded by Robert Aitken.
