WELCOME TO ARCHIFLIXThe ArchiFlix Architecture & Design Film Festival, proudly presented by

Askin Performance Panels, celebrates the unique creative spirit that drives

architecture and design. With a curated selection of films, events and panel

discussions, AADFF creates an opportunity to entertain, engage and educate

industry professionals who are excited about architecture and design.

The screenings are enthusiastically supported by design professionals and

thought leaders who contribute to vibrant discussions. 2017 will see the

festival hosted in Sydney and Melbourne, with satellite events in Brisbane,

Adelaide, and Perth.

The AADFF is supported by the Design Institute of Australia, the Australian

Institute of Landscape Architects, and Bioregional Australia, and with

consultation with the Australian Institute of Architects. We are proudly sponsored

After 3 successful years as a single night event in cities across Australia,

and having welcomed more than 3000 guests, ArchiFlix is now growing up

to become Australia’s first national Architecture and Design Film Festival.

Glenn Murcutt - The Spirit of PlaceThe life and work of Australia’s most famous living architect documents the uniqueness of the Pritzker Prize-winning architect who has put Australian architecture on the world map.

Visual Acoustics - The Moderism of Julius Schulman Exploring the life and career of Julius Shulman - widely regarded by experts as the greatest architectural photographer of modernist movement.

Frank Lloyd WrightExploring Wright’s work and his turbulent family life of scandal and tragedy. Despite all the difficulties of his personal life, Wright rises above to design his most famous and innovative buildings.

I.M. PeiPei reveals his innermost philosophy and principles like never before in this personal, journey around the world narrated by Pei himself.

MetropolisIn a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city’s mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior.

Sketches of Frank GehryDirector Sydney Pollack’s last film before his death explores the life and work of dear friend, Canadian-American architect Gehry, screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2006.

Garbage Warrior (Subject to Confirmation)Mike Reynolds is a crusader for sustainable living, building structures almost entirely from discarded materials. His visionary houses have been are both self-reliance and ingenius.

NeonCelebrating the beauty, colour and vibrant history of the neon sign from an international perspective as we face a world where it will soon be lost and superceded by L.E.D. signage.

EVENT SCHEDULE

JUDGESThe judging panel for the inaugural ArchiFlix Australian Architecture and

Design Film Festival is drawn from leading experts in architecture, design, and

visualisation. In assessing the submitted films the judges will consider a range

of aspects of the filmmaking process including intellectual and visual content,

communication value, and the overall impact of the film for its intended audience.

A publicly voted prize is also offered for the most popular film across the whole

festival, taken from audience polls after each screening session.

Ken Maher - National President of the AIA Ken Maher is an architect and landscape architect. He is

a Hassell Fellow, a Life Fellow of the AIA, and a Fellow

of the AILA. He is also Professor of Practice in the Built

Environment Faculty at the UNSW. Maher is the recipient of

the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2009 Gold Medal.

John Gollings - Architectural Photographer John Gollings has been prolifically photographing

architecture in Australia and beyond for going on forty years.

His pictures are surely among the most reproduced and they

have in and of themselves played a major role in shaping our

perceptions of modern Australian architecture.

Jan Henderson - Interior Designer With over thirty years in the design industry, Jan Henderson

manages a variety of disciplines specialising in interiors,

furnishing, and publications, including her role as co-editor

of Inside Magazine. Her role with Niche was recognised in

2008 when Jan was named Editor of the Year.

Ron V. Brown - Artist DirectorRon V. Brown has been a film and television producer,

director, writer and editor for nearly 45 years. During the

90’s, Ron produced ArchiVision, the first architectural tv

show, and in 2008 established web series ArchiTel featuring

reviews of practices, projects and products in the industry.

SPEAKERS & PANELLISTSIn addition to the screenwriters and film producers of our new release films, a

selection of speakers, panel members and Q&A participants will be invited from

leading practices. Guest speakers visiting for the National Conference will also

participate in panel discussions and gala events when available.

HOW TO GET THERE TRAIN & WALK

The museum is a 20–30 minute walk from Town Hall and Central Stations.

BUS & WALKFor bus information from Central Station or Town Hall or streets in the CBD, plan

your trip at www.transportnsw.info

BIKEThe museum is ideally situated to take advantage of Sydney’s developing

network of cross-city bike lanes and harbour-side cycleways. If you’re riding

through the CBD there are cycle lanes on College St, Park St, Kent St and King

St. A shared bike-pedestrian ramp leads from King St across Pyrmont Bridge

directly to the museum.

FERRYSydney Ferries' Route F4 services Darling Harbour Loop runs approximately

every half hour and stops at the Pyrmont Bay Wharf (next to the museum). The

Parramatta Rivercat Route F3 calls at Darling Harbour’s King Street Wharf (5

minutes walk over Pyrmont Bay Bridge to the museum). Please check timetable

LIGHT RAILCatch the light rail to Pyrmont Bay stop located directly opposite the museum.

PARK YOUR CARVisitors to the museum can park all day for $15 at Harbourside Secure Parking,

located at 100 Murray Street, Pyrmont. Remember to get your parking ticket

stamped at the museum reception.

Parking is also available at The Star, 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont for $15 valid

between the hours of 8am-6.30pm only. Remember to get your parking ticket

validated at the museum front of house desk.

There is also limited metered street parking near the museum.
