N• Monitoring control system changes using FactoryTalk®

AssetCentre, a supervisor noted the change in the audit log and

found it was harmful to the process. The supervisor quickly restored

an earlier copy of the control program from the AssetCentre archive,

preventing any downtime.

• That’s a $300,000 USD savings in a single event!

• An engineer made a change to the control

program running critical equipment at the mine

site. As it turns out, this change had the potential

to damage the machinery, generating costly

downtime!

• The team made 150 changes to the control

system before it was discovered that a

mechanical problem was the true cause of the

production problem. Mechanics were able to

repair the system quickly.

• The control system was in an unknown

uncontrolled state, and production had to start

AssetCentre Change Management to fulfill other business

objectives. The Plant Controls Engineer was able to quickly roll

back the control system to a known good operating condition by

retrieving the correct control program (Golden Copy) from the

AssetCentre Source Control Archive.

• Few years back a major brewery experienced a

production problem: both electricians and

mechanics were assigned to work over a

weekend to resolve the problem that was

believed to in the automation control system.
