SWTS Member News - March 2015

We on the Sid Board of Directors are all excited about the society’s 2015 Annual General Meeting set for June this year... and it’s only March! Those of you who took us up on our offer of great entertainment and snacks last year will understand our excitement. We at the Sid don’t have one of those dry legal and accounting laden events that are typical of an AGM. We make it big, we make it fun, and we make it free! You don’t even have to be a member of the society to attend but be warned that we do reserve the first few rows of the theatre for members. And, aſter the buzz we got following last year’s AGM, paying just 30 bucks for a membership so you and 3 members of your family can cop front row seats just shows good judgment. Now don’t get me started on the other huge advantages of membership or we’ll be here all day. For concise information about the benefits of membership, you’ll want to consult our website. Ever wonder what it’s like to make policy for the cultural heart of Courtenay? Want to find out? The Sid board is losing two long standing members this year due to the mandatory term limits set out in our by-laws. This is your opportunity to give back to the place you love by having a say in how things are done at the Sid. If that sounds attractive to you, send SID WILLIAMS THEATRE SOCIETY | 442 CLIFFE AVENUE, COURTENAY, BC V9N 2J2 | WWW.SIDWILLIAMSTHEATRE.COM |250.338.2430 continued on page 2... We on the Sid Board of Directors are all excited about the society’s 2015 Annual General Meeting set for June this year...and it’s only March!

And, after the buzz we got following last year’s AGM, paying just 30 bucks for a membership so you and 3 members of your family can cop front row seats just shows good judgment.

(continued) A Message From Our Board Of Directors

your resume and a brief statement describing how you think you might be just what our board needs to [email protected] or drop it off at the Ticket Centre. We look forward to hearing from you.

Recently, the Sid Williams Theatre Society was privileged to receive a grant from the Comox Valley Community Foundation. The Foundation grant is going to make it possible for us to replace stage curtains that were first hung when Pierre Trudeau was still the Prime Minister of Canada (only kidding...but almost!). Grants such as the one we received from the Foundation are essential to enable the Sid to carry on its community building function in this valley and we are enormously honoured to have been selected, along with many other recipients, to receive such a substantial gift.

The Sid board wants to beat the theatre drum a bit in 2015. We think the best way to go about that is to offer to come and chat up your organization with a presentation about our facility, its history, its mandate and lots of information about how we fit into the cultural life of this valley. If that sounds interesting to you, give our General Manager, Deb Renz, a call and let her set up a presentation to your group that your members will find informative and thought provoking.

Member Benefits

The main difference between our business membership and the other categories (Regular/Student/Senior) is the number of tickets that can be bought at the member price. Regular/Student/Senior members may purchase up to 4 tickets per show at the discounted price, while business members do not have any limits on the number of tickets they may purchase.

We also list our business members on the membership page of our website, and on occasion coordinate group activities such as backstage tours.

Are there different benefits for Business membership?

Thank You!

Almost 80 years ago, on June 20, 1935, our building, then known as the Bickle Theatre, opened as a state-of-the-art movie house with a gala presentation of

Babes in Toyland. Times and theatre technology have certainly changed, but we’re proud of our history as a premier entertainment venue for the Comox Valley and

surrounding region.

Come celebrate our history and the City of Courtenay’s 100th birthday with us!

We had lots of fun with The Wizard of Oz (Jan 18) and Meet Me In St. Louis (Feb 22), and look forward to the next one! Join us on March 22 and you could enter to win

two (2) tickets and transportation to see the Book of Mormon at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on April 12, 2015.

This prize is generously provided by Courtenay Recreation and the Evergreen Club.
