INTRODUCTION
There is an old adage that goes: communities develop where forests grow.
Wood has wonderful versatility as a raw material, and its use in shelter dates back to the early days of human history. It is strong, inexpensive, easy to work with and best of all made from a renewable resource. Unlike
money, wood actually does grow on trees! There’s no question that with wise forest management, the supply of timber will be available to build our homes, schools and workplaces for many generations to come.
This is our vision here at SWPI - to provide you with high quality wood products today and tomorrow. To all our valued clients and partners, we thank you for choosing us as your responsible timber supplier. Rest
assured that we’ll be in this for the long haul.

SCOPE OF WORK
FORESTRY MANAGEMENT
We own and manage multiple forest concessions in West Papua and Papua. In partnership with various
NGOs and community groups, we manage our forests to balance a number of interests including
(but certainly not limited to) sustainable logging. We also prioritise biodiversity, landscape aesthetics and
cultural preservation.
MILLING
Our mills use state of the art machinery to process raw logs into select grade timber. Here the logs are
scaled, sawn and edged down with absolute precision. Furthermore, our products are always kiln-dried under
stringent conditions to help improve stability and preserve the wood’s natural strength and beauty.
MERCHANDISING & MARKETING
Our in-house sales and marketing team helps connect our customers with the end consumer.
Services include: barcoding, JIT warehousing, design, packaging, advertising and promotions. In addition, we work directly with our customers to assist in key
strategies like market research and sales forecasting.
HARVEST & TRANSPORT
SWPI employs every single logger in our forests so we can be fully accountable for anything that happens
therein. To this end, we strive to ensure our harvests are efficient but legitimate and workers’ conditions are also fair. Many other timber companies in the region still outsource this work and cannot make this same
promise.
MANUFACTURING
Some of our stock is further processed into bio-based hardwood products such as plywood, finger-jointed
decking and screening. We also manufacture a range of specially-designed prefabricated outdoor products. Our production lines run like clockwork to ensure that
no part of the tree is ever wasted.
SHIPPING & EXPORT
We are well-equipped to deliver the goods with our fleet of ships, owned by our parent company Sinar Wijaya Group. Our diverse line of tug boats, cargo
ships and barges mainly serve to transfer the payload domestically, before being connected with our trusted
freight suppliers.

SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is not just a buzzy concept for us. We recognise that the forest is the source of our livelihood.Protecting it is of utmost concern. Our aim is to generate the best long-term economic value from socially considerate and commercially prudent management of our forest concessions. SWPI operations have been
developed in accordance with FSC® guidelines. These principles (detailed overleaf) constitute the most rigorous standards for responsible forest management in the world.
In 2016, we were the first Indonesian wood company to offer merbau sourced from West Papua as an FSC 100% product to Australia and New Zealand*. As we grow, we continue to build our operations on the high standards
set by FSC International.
Key Actions:
• Limiting our harvest to an average of 6 trees per hectare
• Using third-party auditors to identify areas of high conservation value, or “buffer zones” that we exclude from our harvest
• Using GPS technology to map forest composition. From this data, we write a methodical 10-year plan to minimise our footprint
• Frequently testing for KPIs like soil health, water quality, energy efficiency and degradation rates
• Managing plantations to accelerate tree regrowth and aim at a zero net deforestation target
Key Actions:
• Adhering strictly to national work regulations that stipulate reasonable hours and pay for our personnel
• Offering training programs that give our team the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to undertake their work in a responsible manner
• Prioritising a “safety-first” environment which sees workplace hazards minimised, PPE readily available and qualified supervisors on watch
• Providing extended health insurance programs for our employees and their families
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH EMPLOYEE WELFARE
Key Actions:
• Providing resource subsidies to our communities (such as fuelwood)
• Building infrastructure in the order of new roads and bridges
• Cultivating long-term economies by ensuring that indigenous employees make up a high percentage of our workforce
• Partnering with local councils to conduct welfare programs that support education and small businesses
• Connecting with various NGOs to stay abreast of geopolitical issues, so that we may remain relevant to the wider community
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
*As FSC certification is an ongoing process, please always look for the FSC trademark on our products.

FSC certification is the international gold standard for responsible forest use. It provides a bonafide way for industry and consumers to know that a product comes from a well-managed supply chain that doesn’t exploit its resources. Certification requires periodic review and you
can check our verification status anytime at: info.fsc.org.
Our certification number: SCS-COC-005449
What are the Key Criteria for FSC Certification? The Symbol Explained.
You might think this little tree is fairly innocuous, but the FSC logo actually stands for many things. If you see this symbol on any of our products, you will know that our company is following the FSC ten core principles.
1 Compliance with laws and FSC Principles
Our product is traded in a way that respects all applicable laws; regulations and nationally-ratified international treaties, conventions and agreements that concern it.
2 Workers’ rights and employment conditions
We are committed to enhancing the social and economic wellbeing of our workers.
3 Indigenous peoples’ rights
We honour the indigenous peoples’ legal and customary rights of ownership to the land upon which we operate.
4 Community relations We are committed to enhancing the social and economic wellbeing of local communities.
5 Benefits from the forest Our forests are used efficiently and responsibly, with a primary focus on minimising operational waste.
6 Environmental values and impact
We protect biodiversity, avoid unnecessary biocides and reduce our logging impact as much as possible.
7 Management planning Our operational plans are clear and transparent; include environmental policies and a full audit of our resources.
8 Monitoring and assessment
We conduct ongoing reviews that track forest health, harvesting impacts and any social costs of our work in order to implement an adaptive management strategy.
9 High conservation values We identify and take special precautions with high conservation value (HCV) areas; establishing harvest free “buffer zones” where needed.
10 Implementation of management activities
We implement our management plan consistent with our economic, environmental and social policies. In short, we walk the talk.
By buying this wood you help take care of the world’s forests
