*IN 1946 QUAID-E-AZAM REALIZED THE NEED FOR AN AIRLINE NETWORK FOR THE FORMING COUNTRY.HE CALLED UPON THE

HELP OF AN EXPERIECED INDUSTRIALIST MIRZA AHMAD ISPAHANI. ORIENT AIRWAYS,REGISTERED IN CALCUTTA,WAS FORMED ON

OCTOBER 23, 1946.*IN FEBRUARY 1947 THREE DC-3 AIRPLANES WERE BOUGHT FROM A

COMPANY IN TEXEX AND MAY OF THE YEAR THE AIRLINES WAS GRANTED A LICENCE TO FLY.

*AFTER TWO MONTHS WHEN THE SERVICE BEGIN AND PAKISTAN NAETION WAS FOUND THE FLIGHT FROM KARACHI TO DHAKA BY

THE ESTABLISHED DOMASTIC ROUTS.*ON MARCH 11 OF 1955,ORIENT AIRWAYS MEAGED WITH THE

GOVERNMENTS PROPOSED AIRLINE, BECOMING THE “PAKISTAN INTRENATINAL AIRLINES CORPORATION”..

*AT THE SAME AIR THE AIRLINES OPENED IT FIRST SERVICE, UNDER THE PIA NAME,FROM KARACHI TO LONDON.

>STRENGTHS:-

1.PIA has status of being flag carrier of PAKISTAN 2.Highest market share at domestic network. 3.Multilingual staff on board. 4.Booking offices in all major cities both at domestic an international. 5.PIA has will established brand as its oldest airline in PAKISTAN. 6.Subsidized fares. 7.HALAL meat available at all flights. 8.Electeonic ticketing by web and through SMS. 9.Highly professional staff. 10.Having GOVERMENTS protection.

>WEAKNESSES:-

1.Old aging fleet of PIA causing higher operating cost. 2.Huge burden of employee which cause financial burden. 3.Inadeguate space on the aircraft. 4.Charging of higher fare as compared to competitors. 5.Lack of marketing activities as compared to competitors. 6.Poor quality of food/services on board especially in domestic flights.

2.SWOT ANALYSIS-EXTERNAL FACTORS.

>OPPORTUNITIES:-

1.PIA has huge potential marker in middle east if PIA upgrades its fleets. 2.PIA has largest domestic network and by proper routs planning. PIA can generate huge amount of revenue with higher profit. 3.PTDC provides favorable market for domestic as well as international

sector for the airlines. 4.PIA can generate more revenue by attracting customer through web and

mobile reservation system.

>THREATS:-

1.Negative rising perception about the country, regarding terrorism. 2.POLITICAL instability and law and order situation. 3.rising fuel prices in the world. 4.Over staffing at all level. 5.Freguently rising Airlines fare. 6.Fast growing domestic and international competitors. 7.Effective promotion stretegies adopted by other competitors like

emirates and shaheen and airblue.

SERVICES AND SPECIAL OPERATIONS:-

SERVICES:-

CABIN:

-PIA operate a three class configuration on its domestic routes which include Business Plus,

Economy Plus+ and Economy.-However on their international flights a two

class configuration, Business plus and Economy, has remained popular.

-According to the ANNUAL REPORT 2007, PIA recorded a seat factor of 69%,a percentage

drop from 2006. PIA Business Plus passengers are offered flat bed seats on all boeing 777 as

well as select Airbus A310 aircraft.

*CATERING:-

-PIA catering are the main suppliers of meals of the airlines.-They can produce 15,000 passengers meals each day.

-Since 2006, the management control of the flight kitchens has been given to Singapore air terminal services (SATS).

-PIA catering also provide special meals to allow for passengers dietary and religious needs.

HAJJ AND UMRAH OPERATIONS:-

-PIA operates a two-month(pre- and post-) Hajj operation each year to and from Jeddah and

sometimes Madinah in Saudi Arabia.-PIA transports over 130,000 intending pilgrims each

year from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, and Sukkur to the

kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In order to deal with the demand, the airline leases many different aircraft

including boeing 747-200s, Airbus A321s, Airbus A300B4s and boing 737-400s.
