Significant savings, but with room to grow. In recent months we have discussed changes to Colorado’s energy sector that align with a cleaner and greener energy future. This

month, I want to highlight a Mountain View Electric Association, Inc., program that allows co-op members to get cleaner and greener closer to home through paperless billing. The “Switch & Save” program was launched in 2016 to promote paperless billing and bank account auto-pay options to members. These options help the co-op save on the expense of monthly billing processes, while adopting a greener approach to conducting business, but it is the practical benefits to members that drive our efforts. Paperless billing through SmartHub is an easy way for MVEA members to cut clutter, save trees, money, and time.

The program has been a success as many MVEA members enjoy the convenience of online billing and account management while also supporting the conservation of resources. Currently, more than 23,300 MVEA accounts are enrolled in the “Switch & Save” program through paperless billing, bank account auto-pay, or both. Nearly 17,000 MVEA accounts, more than 30 percent of account bills, are enrolled in paperless billing, adding up to more than $204,000 in annual co-op savings per year. Significant savings, but with room to grow. If every co-op account was enrolled in paperless billing (over 55,000 account bills per month), the co-op could save more than

$660,000 per year, tons of paper, and hundreds of trees.

Going paperless through SmartHub lets you manage all aspects of your MVEA account online or with your mobile device, while earning a monthly 50 cent per meter credit. When you receive a bill by email, you can log on to your account, using either your computer or mobile device, and quickly access your account to monitor your electric use and schedule a payment. No stamps, checks, or envelopes required. It’s easier to keep track of your billing and account information online than on paper, and you have access to more account details. Additional “Switch & Save” program benefits include:

• When you go paperless through SmartHub, you receive a monthly 50 cent per meter credit.

• Members who switch to bank account auto-pay also receive a monthly 50 cent per meter credit.

• Combine both “Switch & Save” program offers, and save $1 per meter, per month.

• NEW! You will be entered into a quar-terly drawing to win a $300 account credit. Winners will be selected from all active members who participate in the “Switch & Save” program by going paperless, using bank account auto-pay, or both.

As a Mountain View Electric Association, Inc. member, you have a perspective that is valuable—and we invite you to share it with the co-op. At the Annual Meeting of Members, the MVEA Board of Directors and Executive Team are available to meet members and answer questions. It is an opportunity for co-op leaders to share the co-op’s successes and challenges with the membership, as well as the financial health and forecast of priorities for the coming years. Topics may include Colorado’s evolving energy landscape, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association’s Responsible Energy Plan, the impact of regulations on rates and infrastructure, the adoption of advanced technology to increase member satisfaction, or the building of new substations to help serve our growing electric cooperative.

The MVEA Annual Meeting of Members is not only designed to take care of the important business of the co-op, but the equally important business of building a real sense of co-op community. It is an event where neighbors can meet new neighbors—or catch up with old acquaintances. If you have not attended the MVEA Annual Meeting of Members in the past, or if it has been a few years, we urge you to join us—we want to hear from you to better inform our decisions as we plan for the future! Plus, active involvement is a terrific way to learn more about your electric cooperative.

Whether your project is small or big, call 811 before you dig. Every 6 minutes an underground utility line is damaged due to unapproved digging. It is dangerous. It is expensive. It is against the law. As a property owner or contractor, it is Colorado State Law to contact the Utility Notification Call Center prior to digging. Any type of digging requires a call. Building a deck? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or mailbox? 811 is the number to call before you begin any project.
