European regulation, regular shaft lighting according to EN 81-20.

5.2.1.4 Lighting

5.2.1.4.1 The well shall be provided with permanently installed electric lighting, giving the following intensity of illumination, even when all doors are closed, at any position of the car throughout its travel in the well:

1. a) at least 50 lx, 1.0 m above the car roof within it's vertical projection;

2. b) at least 50 lx, 1.0 m above the pit floor everywhere a person can stand, work and/or move between the working areas;

3. c) at least 20 lx outside of the locations defined in a) and b), excluding shadows created by car or components.

To achieve this, sufficient number of lamps shall be fixed throughout the well and where necessary additional lamp(s) may be fixed on the car roof as a part of the well lighting system.

5

European regulation, emergency shaft lighting according to EN 81-20.

5.4.10.4 Emergency Lighting

There shall be emergency lights with an automatically rechargeable emergency supply, which is capable of ensuring a lighting intensity of at least 5 lx for 1 h:

1. a) at each alarm initiation device in the car and on the car roof;

2. b) in the centre of the car 1 m above the floor;

3. c) in the centre of the car roof, 1 m above the floor.

This lighting shall come on automatically upon failure of the normal lighting supply.

European regulation, ICEL 1006

ICEL 1006: Emergency Lighting Design Guide

This guide has been prepared by the Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL). It provides information for the use of emergency lighting design engineers to promote a wider understanding of the different types of emergency lighting, and gives guidance on their correct application.

This standard was developed from the ICEL Guide 1006, which gave guidance to theapplication of BS 5266-1 and considers the requirements of the new European draft standards as well as the current legislation and codes of practice.ICEL recommends that emergency lighting is designed and installed to the new standard.

7

ICEL 1006, Terminology

For the purpose of the British and European standard BS EN 1838, Emergency Lighting is the generic term for equipment that provides illumination in the event of failure of supply to normal lighting. There are number of specific forms as shown in the figure below.

8

ICEL 1006, Illuminance requirements

A lift is seen as an additional area, where in the past no illumination was specified.This has been changed with the current version.

easy connect LEDplus,At a glance● The LEDplus shaft lighting consists of a robust PVC LED-strip,

a connection box with rectifier and a 10 m power supply cord with shaped plug and 2 cable clamps for the emergency light

● The flexible LED-strip is equipped with high luminance LEDs ● The large beam of the LEDs provides an equal illumination

along the shaft without horizontal formation of shades● Emergency light along the complete shaft providing more

safety for service technician in the pit and on the car top● Emergency light exceeding EN81-20. 5.4.10.4c● One continuous strip from the pit up to the bottom of the shaft,

maximum length 50 m● Easy installation with 6 mm plastic dowels. The recommended

distance between the dowels is 2 to 3 m ● Fast installation (approx. half an hour at 22 m shaft height)

and light right from the beginning● IP65 protection with safety class II● Self extinguishing burning characteristic● Semiconductor protection of stress peaks at the rectifier
