How are human infections with swineinfluenza diagnosed?
To diagnose swine influenza Ainfection, a respiratory specimen
would generally need to becollected within the first 4 to 5 daysof illness (when an infected personis most likely to be shedding virus).
However, some persons, especiallychildren, may shed virus for 10
days or longer.
Identification as a swine fluinfluenza A virus requires sendingthe specimen toahospitallaboratory fortesting.

Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines (pills, liquid oran inhaler) that fightagainstthe flu bykeeping flu viruses from reproducing in yourbody.
If you get sick, antiviral drugs can make your
illness milderand make you feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications.
Fortreatment, antiviral drugs work best if startedsoon after getting sick (within 2 days ofsymptoms).

What surfaces are most likely to be sourcesof contamination?
The virus can be spread when aperson touches something that iscontaminated withthe virus and then
touches his orher eyes, nose, ormouth.
Droplets froma coughor sneeze ofan infected person move throughtheair. The virus can then be spread
