About the Competition

An opportunity for up to 8 young engineers, apprentices and studentsaged between 18 and 30 to present to a small audience on a topic oftheir choice. The audience can watch and ask questions of the views ofthe next generation of engineers. Judges will assess and award prizes.

Additional Information

Each presentation lasts for fifteen minutes including questions. Thereare prizes of £150 and £100 for 1st and 2nd places respectively. Thewinner of the local competition can progress through further rounds tothe global final with a prize of £1000. Challenger 2 (CR2) is the Main Battle Tank (MBT) of the British Army.Designed and manufactured by British Vickers Defence Systems, it'spromoted as the world's most reliable MBT. CR2 has proven itselfduring combat missions in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq.

About the Visit

This is a rare opportunity to see how our team works on these historiccars. The tour will take in our mechanical, body shop, woodwork andmanufacturing departments. We are one of the biggest vehiclerestoration companies in the country.

Programme

The visit will start promptly at 14:00 and take 2.5 hours. Tea & Coffeewill be provided during the tour.

Additional Information

Maximum 30 people.Try to avoid metal zips, buckles and buttons on jackets which caneasily damage paint work. We ask you do not touch any of the cars,parts, machinery, etc. Ideally please wear steel toe caps and clothesthat you are not precious about.

About the Visit

A chance to visit Europe's largest aircraft dismantling facility whichannually dismantles between 50 and 60 airliners at Cotswold Airport.

Programme

Arrive 16.30 to start at 17.00, the tour will take approx 2 hours.No refreshments will be provided.

Additional Information

Numbers are limited to 30 maximum.HIVIS clothing is required when Airside, if possible please bring yourown with you.Photography may be restricted. It is advisable to wear shoes suitablefor a factory environment.The entrance is from the A433 on the north side of the airport, lookout for signpost RVP2.

About the Event

Airlander is a hybrid aircraft manufactured by the British companyHybrid Air Vehicles Ltd. These hybrids use both aerodynamics andlighter-than-air (LTA) technology to generate lift, potentially allowingthe vehicle to stay aloft for several weeks.

We are fast approaching January 2017 when the IET’s Board of Trustees agreed to introduce a policy of random reviewing of Professionally Active Registrants’ CPD Returns in line with all Professional Engineering Institutions.

To raise the profile of the IET and the Swindon LN we will, through the STEM programme supported by both the IET Education Department and Catalyst Learning and Communication Ltd, again exhibit the IET education stand in the Techno Zone at RAF Fairford. If you would like to volunteer to support this activity please contact the committee.
