LAND MATTERS – WHY?

Land is a limited non-renewable resource.

When properly managed it provides govern-

ments with the means to stimulate investment

and economic growth, provide sustainable

development, improve social stability and

protect the environment.

Swedesurvey is the overseas agency of Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority. Production of cadastral and topographic maps and land valuation in Sweden began as early as 1628 when Lantmäteriet was founded. Major land reforms covering most of the country, under-taken in the 18th and 19th centuries, have provided information that forms the basis of the Swedish land administration of today.

Since the late 1970s, actors in the field of land management and land affairs in over 70 countries throughout the world have benefitted from sharing this knowledge and experience via Swedesurvey. With full access to the expertise of the approximately 2 000 staff of Lantmäteriet, Swedesurvey has guaranteed capacity and resources to provide the services required.

The wide spectra of activities which we undertake have gained Swedesurvey inter-national recognition in providing high-quality services and solutions appropriate to the local context.
