Sweden!

• Sweden is the third largest country in the European Union in terms of area, and it has 9.2 million people in the country. The country is connected to Norway and Finland but is only a couple of kilometres away from Denmark. As some of you may know Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. Malmö where I used to live is the third biggest city in Sweden. Skåne is one of the counties in Sweden and Malmö is a city in Skåne, (just like Christchurch is a city in Canterbury). Skåne used to be a part of Denmark until king Karl the tenth Gustaf won the war between Sweden and Denmark 1658 and ever since

that year Skåne has been Swedish. • Click here for map of Sweden

Turning torso!

Turning torso is a skyscraper in Sweden in the city Malmö where I used to live. It was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and it opened 27 of August 2005. The building is 190 meters tall and it has 54 stories. It is the second tallest residential building in

Europe after the 264 meter high Triumph Palace in Moscow.

Malmö soccer stadium

• They first started building Malmö's soccer stadium 23 of April 2007 and it was finished 13 of April 2009. The arena is 27 meters tall and there are 21 000 seats all together. They built the new stadium just beside the old one because in the old one there were racing tracks and so much space between the field and the audience that they realised the audience couldn’t get a close up look of the game but they still wanted to keep the old one for athletes and lower graded soccer players to train.

City museum

• This building used to be a castle and the red round parts of the building with the tiny windows

used to be the jail enclosures where they could put thieves and people they caught. The oldest parts of the building was built by Erik of Pommern 1434 and the castle was used buy the Danish kings when they came to visit Skåne. Now it’s a huge museum where you can look at all sorts of things and you can go down to the jail parts of the house and look at the enclosures. Next to the museum there is an old submarine that you can go into and look inside. The building is on the middle of a piece of land that has water around it so that no one could get in without using the bridge.

City Library

• The city library has got three different buildings connected to each other. The part with all the lights in the roof was designed by Henning Larsen and it was finished 16 days after I was born (31th of may 1997) there are two levels and computers in the whole building, the cylinder part which is where the entry and the café is and then there is also the red brick house which used to be the museum and looks like a castle. Just like the library in Christchurch there are video games and music and heaps of other things to

do.
