January has been a very busy time on the water with many of us making the best of some incredible weather and getting away. I was lucky enough to go to Mandurah and moored the boat at the loading jetty at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and sailing Club. This is an excellent place to visit which has floating jetties with power and water supplied. They offer special rates for members visiting from other clubs and they are very hospitable. On Friday 23rd of January the club hosted the “Dail Platz” Johnny Cash Tribute Show as a lead in event to the Australia Day Weekend. The night was extremely successful for the club and I am sure everybody who attended had a great night. We are looking at having Dail back later in the year. Many boating members also attended the Fremantle or Perth Fireworks, visited Garden Island or Rottnest and the Cruising Section sailed off in convoy to Rockingham and Mangles Bay where a great time was had by all. It is also very encouraging to see so many of our non-boating members using the clubs facilities during the week for lunches or meetings and those who flock to the Sunday Sessions with their families to enjoy the music and atmosphere. This ensures that the most is being made of the venue. The building plans are currently with the Swan River Trust and we will want to start the works in a staged way to minimise disruption as soon as we get the approvals. Whilst having to wait for the approval process to take its course we are continuing to get as much preliminary work done as possible. This includes fine tuning the plans, working with the Quantity Surveyor to cost the project and approaching other funding bodies that may be able to make a contribution to the important areas of asbestos removal and connection to deep sewage. If you believe you can be of assistance please contact Damien to offer your services. On a sad note Life Member Bob Sutcliffe has recently passed away. Bob made a great contribution to the club over many years and our condolences go out to his family, RIP Bob. Also another sad loss for the club with the recent passing of member Brian Walton, condolences to hi family also. RIP Brian. All the best Kim Wilkie AM COMMODORE

Angling Report
After cancelling several Field Days in December we finally had a competition on Sunday 18th January with a
great turn out of 14 boats.
Just goes to show that we were all hanging out to get out there and test our skills. Weather wise it was an
average day with an early South Westerly with a blanket of fog that appeared like approaching rain but when
it hit us it was just a thick blanket of fog (or 'Bigga the Mist', as Alf would say). It was a great to see all our
members at the 'Weigh in' in their Angling shirts.....we looked a team lads !!
Fish wise, nothing spectacular was caught as they were just not biting (that's my excuse) out there except for the 3 Dhuies landed by Steve White, Stuart Kenyon & Gil Sander. This was Stuart's first Dhuie using White Plastic bait.....well done lads.
Our January Winners are as follows -
January Top Guns
1st Steve White - 85 Points
2nd
Kevin Bielby - 60 Points
3rd
Gil Sander - 50 Points
Participation Prizes
1st Owen Blackbeard - $25 Cash from Black Pete Tackle
2nd
Ian Hall - $25 Cash from Black Pete Tackle
3rd
John Heinrich - $25 Voucher from Compleat Angler
4th Kevin Castensen - $25 Voucher from Compleat Angler
Mystery Fish
1st Mark Swift - Squid - $25 Voucher from Carrington Tackle
2nd
Stuart Kenyon - Dhufish - $25 Voucher from Carrington Tackle

A Happy Birthday to Lesley Kenyon & our Captain Dave Birchenough who celebrated his 60th birthday
this month. On a sadder note Dave lost his Mum Dorian on Sunday 18th night on the Isle of Wight, UK. Our
sincere Condolences Dave, from all your Angling mates and the SYC.
A welcome to Mark Swift and Phil Jackson who have both joined the Angling Section.
We will be having 2 Field Days (Fishing Competitions) in February to make up for December's Field Day
that was cancelled.
The first will be on Sunday 1st February and the second Field Day will be on Sunday 15th February.
Anglers, Please make a note of these dates. We are also hoping to have a 'Raft Up' at Parker Point, Rotto over
the next couple of months, the date is yet to be confirmed.
Our annual Abrolhos Islands fishing trip has been booked for the 27th March with all spots filled. Our other
big event will be our annual Intra Club Fishing Competition on Sunday 26th April 2015, with Cash and
Great Prizes to be won, it is open to all SYC members.
The Angling Section is always looking for new members, especially juniors, so if you think you would like to
join the Angling Section just come along to one of our meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of every
month in the Ward Room at the club. It is great fun for the whole family and you can win prizes too, so
come along and join us.
And lastly, thank you to all those who support our raffles every Thursday night at the club and our sponsors -
Compleat Angler & Carrington Tackle who donate prizes for our monthly competitions, your support is
greatly appreciated.
Till Next Month, Tight lines - Ian Hall

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying the warm weather. This report finds Marian sitting by Dons side as he recovers from some gruelling surgery. We wish them both well for a speedy recovery. Things are quiet for the L.A. This time of year, with our next event helping out with the clubs Anzac Day celebrations. We attended the Johnny Cash Tribute show on the Australia Day long weekend and it was a magic night with well over 200 attending. I personally felt Dale made a better Willie Nelson but he is amazingly versatile and plays a range of instruments. If he returns to the club in the future I can thoroughly recommend the show to country music fans and anyone else who loves a tune. I just wish people would kick back and listen to the music instead of holding loud conversations and drowning out what the music lovers have come to hear. It is very frustrating. Maybe it is just because I am getting old but I find it so rude. Once again all our best wishes to Don and Maz. They do so much work around the club and we need them back here quickly Barb Jeffery
