IN THE EVENT OF AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT
FOR ALL EMERGENCIES, CONTACT:
• CallUniversityPoliceimmediately.• Givethedispatcheryournameandlocation.• Advisethedispatcheroftheextentofanyinjuriesandthenumberofpersonsinjured.
• Haveallpersonsandwitnessesinvolvedremainatthesceneuntilthepolicearrive.

• DuringnormalbusinesshourscallCampusFacilitiesat964-4080andadvisethemofthetypeofutilityoutage(electrical,heating,cooling,water,etc.).
• Ifnecessary,implementtheappropriateemergencyprocedures(e.g.evacuationofclassroomarea).
• Openblindstoletoutsidelightinoruseflashlightsifavailable.• Remaininplaceunlessdirectedbyuniversityofficialstogotoanotherdesignatedarea.
• Iforderedtoleavethearea,donotreturntothelocationuntiltheAll Clear isannounced.

• Trytomakehim/hercomfortable,ifpossible.• Unlessqualifiedtoprovidefirstaid,donotattempttorenderanyfirstaid.Seeksomeonewhoisqualified.
• Usepersonelprotectiveequipment(gloves)whenexposingyourselftobodilyfluids(e.g.,blood,vomit).

SExUAL ASSAULT
IF SOMEONE IS SExUALLY ASSAULTED
FOR ALL EMERGENCIES, CONTACT:
• Renderassisstancetothevictim.• CallPoliceat9-911.• Obtainasmuchinformationaspossibleregardingtheassailantincludingaphysicaldescriptionandclothinginformation(e.g.,age,gender,height,weight,haircolor,eyecolor,colorofshirt/pants/coat,medicalstatus,ifappropriate,etc.).
• Protectthecrimesceneasmuchaspossible.• Trytopreventthevictimfromusingtheshowerorbathingastheycoulddestroyvitalevidence.
• Staywithvictimuntilpolicearriveonthescene.

• Staycalmandbeawareofyoursurroundings.• Assessthelevelofthreat.DONOTPUTYOURSELFATRISKifyouthinkanaltercationcouldoccur.
• Timeanddistanceareimportant-themoretimeyouhave,themoretimeyouwillbeabletoprepareyourself.Keepadistanceofatleastanarmslengthbetweenyouandtheindividual.
• Callforassistance,ifneeded.• Trytode-escalatethesituation:
•Listentotheperson•Empathizewiththepersonandberespectful-donotshame,blame,orjudge
•Useaclear,calm,strongvoice•Keepbodylanguagenon-threatening•Donotusewordsthatthreatenorintimidate
• Ifyouareunabletode-escalatethesituation,callforassistanceimmediately.
• Timeanddistanceareimportant-themoretimeyouhave,themoretimeyouwillbeabletoprepareyourself.Keepadistanceofatleastanarm’slengthbetweenyouandtheindividual.
THREAT/DEALING wITH A DIFFICULT INDIVIDUAL
• Ifanaltercationistakingplace,DONOTPUTYOURSELFATRISK.• Call9-911immediately.• Trytocallforassistanceofanearbyfacultyorstaffmember.• Afterthealtercationhasoccurred,ifsafetodoso,moveanyvictimtoaprivateoffice/area.Ensurethevictimisinasafeplaceandassistinmakinghim/hercomfortable.
• Donotleavethevictimalone.• BepreparedtogiveasmuchofthefollowinginformationaspossibletoauniversityemployeeandthePolice:
•Yournameandlocation•Whathappened•Victim’snameandage•Locationofvictim•Descriptionoftheassailant•Locationoftheassailantordirectionoftheirescape
• Ifthevictim(s)requiresmedicalattention,seetheinformationtabregardingMedicalEmergenciesinthisguide.
• Remaincalmandreassurestudentsthatallpossibleactionsarebeingtakencareoffortheinjurepersonandtheprotectothers.

• NotifyUniversityPoliceimmediately.
• Donotattempttomoveoropenthepackage.
• Donotallowanyonetohandleitorgonearthedevice
• Evacuatetheoccupantsoutoftheimmediatearea.
•Writedowneverythingyourememberabouttheletterorparcel.
• Saveallpackingmaterials.• SaveemailandreportittoUniversityPolice
•Whenanexplosivedeviceispresentorallegedtobepresentoncampusoroncampusproperty,theUniversityPolicemayconductanevacuationoftheareaorbuilding.
• Ifdirectedtosearchyourarea,lookforanysuspiciouspackagesorunidentifiedbackpacks.Nevertouchanypackagethatlookssuspicious.Ifyoulocateasuspiciouspackagecall9-911immediately.
• Ifdirectedtoevacuateyourareafollowtheevacuationproceduresorotherdirectionsfrompoliceofficersoruniversityadministrators.
• Avoidrunningandotherquickmovements,sincethiscandetonatecertaindevices.

•Evacuate:Unlessotherwisedirected,followtheevacuationplanandproceedtothedesignatedevacuationassemblyareaoutsidethebuilding.
IF YOU DISCOVER FIREOR SMOkE
• Remaincalm.• Evacuatethebuilding.• Onceyouhavereachedthedesignatedevacuationassemblyarea,accountforalloccupantsandreportanymissingoccupantstothePolice.

TORNADO/SEVERE wEAThER
TornadoWatch–IssuedbytheNationalWeatherServicewhensevereweatherconditionsandpossibletornadoescouldoccurinthearea.
•Whenatornadowatchisineffect,theuniversitywillcontinuenormalactivitiesbutmaymoveexternalactivitiesindoors.
• Bepreparedtorespondifweatherconditionsworsen.• Theuniversitywillnotcloseordismissearlyundertornadowatchconditions.
TornadoWarning–isissuedwhenatornadohasbeensightedorindicatedbyweatherradar.Whenthisoccurs,thetornadosirenswillbeactivated.Individualsshouldseekshelterimmediately.
• Immediatelymovetodesignatedshelterareasonthefirstfloor,basementorhallwayswithnoglass.Tornadoshelterplaquesindicatingshelteringareasarelocatedattheentrancetoeachbuilding.
• Closeblindsordrapesandstayawayfromwindows,mirrors,glassandunsecuredobjectssuchasfilingcabinets.

• Assessthesituationwithrespecttoinjuries.Iftrainedtodoso,renderfirstaidtothosewhoareinjureduntilmedicalhelparrives.
• Unlessthereisanimminenthazardinthearea,individualsshouldwaitintheshelterareasuntiladirectnotificationofanAll Clear isannounced.
• Ifthebuildingissignificantlydamagedbeverycarefulasseveralhazardssuchasexposedelectricalwires,sharporfallingdebris,etc.,maybepresent.
• DuckandCover:Occupantsshouldsitorkneel,tuckheaddownandprotecttheirheadandtorsowiththeirhandsandarms.

Evacuationofaclassroomorareamaybeorderedbyfacultyorstaff,UniversityPolice,orlocalpublicsafetyagencies.Thepurposeistomoveoccupantsawayfrompotentiallythreateningsituationsthatdonotrequirefullbuildingevacuation.
Evacuationofabuildingisusedtomoveoccupantsoutofthebuildingbyapre-designatedroute(ifusable)toavoidapotentiallythreateningsituationthatinvolvestheentirebuilding. OrderstoevacuatethebuildingmaybeissuedbyUniversityPoliceorlocalpublicsafetyagencies.
