Computer Software Knowledge Base Development

Emogram, a computer-based program that uses thirty-three facial images depicting three degrees

of eleven emotions to measure, track, and report changes in a subject’s emotional state. Designed

by Chaotics International, using concepts and tools derived from nonlinear systems theory,

Emogram analyzes emotion interactions as well as changes in emotional states that occur over

time. Emogram makes use of highly specialized knowledge bases to analyze user emotions and

produce status reports as well as prescriptive reports.

Served as a major contributor to the following knowledge base development:

Emogram - Counseling Burnout Knowledge Base: The Emogram Counselor Burnout Edition is

designed to reduce counselor stress and improve a counselor’s ability to cope with the job. It

detects early signs of detachment and counselor burnout and provides individualized suggestions

to help counselors manage their responses to counseling issues.

Emogram - Volunteerism Knowledge Base: The Emogram Volunteer Edition is specifically

designed to provide support for volunteers working in stressful situations. It monitors a

volunteer’s emotional changes and provides opportunities to debrief troublesome issues with

supervisors.

Emogram – Traumatic Stress Knowledge Base: The Emogram Traumatic Stress Edition is

designed for use with employees who have been exposed to traumatic events. It is an appropriate

tool for counselors of police officers and fire department personnel. It detects and measures the

extent of critical emotional measures such as fear, shame, anger, and contempt and interprets

these to assist the counselor with assessment, intervention, and the monitoring of coping efforts.

Used as an intake assessment tool, it can supplement other assessment instruments. Used as a

pre- and post-session assessment tool, it can provide psycho-educational and anger management

opportunities.
