About Eco- Friendly Tourism

•In Malaysia I know this resort which follows some principals of sustainability. The resort I am doing is in Malaysia.

Windmills• The windmills don’t have to look plain and boring. It could look interesting and pretty and yet efficient. The energy that is collected can be used to generate the electricity in each room. We can also decorate around the windmill with some flowers.

The rooms• The rooms of the resort doesn’t have to be in this really big building. It could be just a row of bungalows and with some trees so that it can absorb carbon dioxide. The resort could also face the sea and give the tourist a very calm feeling. The bungalows should have some exposure of natural light.

Vegetable Patch & Farm• The resort can have a farm or an area where they can grow vegetables. • THE FARM• ~They could have some animals like chicken, geese and other farm animals. They could also have a pond where there are fish. They can use these animals for reproduction of the animal species and as food. The animal poo can be used as compost.• THE VEGETABLE PATCH• Here they can grow some vegetables. These can be used for cooking in the restaurants.

Green house• Here I can plant different types of plants and let the tourists enter this area. They can take part in some activities like watering the plants or planting some plants. After they plant the plants they can bring the plants home so that there home has also more plants. In case they don’t want to bring the plants back home they can place it back in the green house.

Solar Panels & Thermal Panel• The roofs of the bungalows will have some solar and thermal panels. This can help to generate the electricity for each bungalow. This is a separate power from the windmill electricity. • The thermal panels can heat up the water for the bath tubs, kettles and Jacuzzi- like a river- which will be at behind the bungalows. This can ensure less electricity use for these things and more for the lighting and the air-conditioning.

Composting Toilet• The composting toilet will use the faeces that is released for the plants and trees. The faeces will be collected and changed into compost. This method doesn’t use much water and neither pollutes the water. The compost can be used as a substitute to fertilizer.

Rain water harvesting• The rain that is collected can be used to water plants and also be used to fill up the pond which will be at the reception area. This can help prevent the use of clean water-swimming pool, bath, drinking-.• The rain water is channeled to be used in the toilets and washrooms.

Bulb• The bulbs that should be used is florescent bulbs that can conserve energy. The resort won’t have bright white lights but more orangeish light. This is sometime not needed because there is natural sunlight.
