Improved Rice Parboiling System (IRPS):impact on women and children

The Sector

50,000 Rice Mill SMEs

Produces 80% of the country’s parboiled rice

Parboiling produces 8 Million MT Rice Husk as

by-product

Rice Husk represents 23% of national biomass

resource

The Issues

Most boilers used in parboiling use rice husk as

fuel

The inefficient boilers burns up to 70% of rice husk

The boilers are usually unsafe and profusely

polluting

Rice Mills have mostly unhealthy environment for

workers and neighbors

GIZ Improved Rice Parboiling System
