What is
Sustainable Architecture?
Prepared By-Property Club India
Introduction
Sustainable Architecture is an effort to minimize the negative environmental impact of the buildings by using specific materials, energy and development space through strict moderation and efficiency
Sustainability ensures our actions and decisions of today that will not inhibit the opportunities of future generations
In Sustainable Architecture, Energy efficiency over the entire life cycle of a building is the most important goal
Across the globe, buildings account for 40% of energy use, 38% of greenhouse gas emissions, 12% of potable water, and 20% of solid waste streams in developed countries. So , Green buildings or Sustainable Architecture is the easiest and least costly way to address climate change and save our Mother Earth from devastation
Sustainable Architecture aims at-
Minimum usages of non-renewable resources
Enhancing the natural environment
Eliminating or minimizing the use of toxic
materials
How should we go for it..?
Sustainable Architecture should:
Harvest all their own water and energy needs on sitePrepare design as per site climatePromote the health and well-being of all inhabitants, as a healthy ecosystem does
How should we go for it..?
An integrated energy efficient system to ensure maximize efficiency and comfort of the inhabitants Attempt to improve the health and diversity of the local ecosystem rather than degrade it Get a stunning look to inspire and dream No waste generation and pollution free operation to ensure a sustainable development
Sustainable Architecture or Green Building initiative has not been able to draw much of attention in Indian Construction market but it is also fact that India is now the second largest market for green buildings which unleashes the potentiality of the market
Main challenge for Sustainable Architecture in India is the gap between technology and economic status. Sophisticated technology-based solutions have been developed to improve the energy efficiency of buildings but it requires a huge initial investment. On the other hand, there are traditional method to maximize efficiency but mobile urban population is reluctant to go for it. As a result affordable technology has taken place
Indian Government has not yet come with any support plan for sustainable development except few initiatives. But for a sustainable development we need homegrown solution so that we can afford and Government have not intervene into this
