Sustainability is a key area of consideration at both the design and construction stages of any construction project. The government is encouraging sustainability in all areas of construction; residential, commercial and in infrastructure, but at this stage it is unclear how the foundations of a building or other structure can be taken into account in terms of the sustainability of a project. This seminar will provide examples of projects where sustainable foundations have been considered. The seminar will be built around a framework that delegates can use to make their foundations more sustainable. The seminar will be used to instigate an industry wide discussion as to how the sustainability of foundations can be accounted for in the overall sustainability assessment and be appropriate for all industry sectors. The BRE has, for 90 years, been a world class construction research organisation. The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) is an international networking and knowledge transfer association that has members in all parts of the construction industry from academia through consultants, contractors to material and plant manufacturers.
