the road map and completing the self assessment
..and how did we do?
ECR UK
53 million KM’s saved
88,000 barrels of oil
43,000 tonnes of carbon
£53m of transport expense
Big Success…
Strong industry awareness..
Road map translated into 7 languages…
The FISS Food Industry Sustainability Strategy group sponsored by the UK government identified savings of
up to 15% in transport expense by following best practice themes such as those described in the ECR

Using the sustainable transport road map
The Five opportunities :The Five opportunities :
1. Qualitative assessment tool
2. Benchmark within your organisation
3. As an open mind for your third party contractors
4. As a skeleton for opening opportunities with
your partner
5. International benchmark
Qualitative assessment tool
The benefits of modular standards
• Half height pallets project
A flexible approach to transit units
• Break pack elimination and the use of slip sheets for direct imports
We share and collaborate
• Developed our carrier community, carrier scorecard and awards, 25% fewer empty legs
Route planning
• Isotrak being used to provide journey specific measurement of miles vs. plan
Our drivers make the difference
• 3,000 drivers being trained to NVQ on safe and efficient driving
Fuel economy and emissions
• Individual truck performance monitored by Isotrak and fed into the procurement process

Now, show me the benefit..
Fewer and Friendlier Miles
Fewer:
Reduce the miles run of one truck by 10% and you will save £14,000 in a full year and save 5 tonnes of carbon
Friendlier:
Improve the fuel economy of one truck by one mile per gallon and you will save £5,500 in a full year and save 16 tonnes of carbon
