I wanted to find out the type of music magazine’s the target audience will prefer to

see and would purchase. So I did a survey online because it was easier to get around

different age groups and also because I could collect my results easier.

I also received 56 responses which made it reliable and easier to see what people mostly

prefer.

I asked general questions about gender and age because the people answering remain anonymous, so by asking this allowed me to find

out a but about the people answering my survey

I found out that the majority of people who answered my survey where females so most my results will be more from a female perception, however there was 34% males who answered which can still even it out slightly .

The majority of people who answered my survey where students aged 16-18 which was a good sign to see as this is my target audience. So the feedback will be useful because I can see what appeals so them most in a music magazine.

I also decided to ask if the people answering my questionnaire read magazines. It was evenly balanced out showing that around 50% of people don’t read and 50% do read.

It was also interesting to see that 50% of those who answered don’t read magazine -so this is also useful because it allows me to see what would make them purchase magazines.

For those who do already read magazines I wanted to find out what type of magazines they are into reading so it would allow me to see what elements I could add to mine that is similar to their chosen magazines.

Most of these responses where OK, heat and magazine with Gossip. However there was also some kerrang and football related magazines added. So I could include some of the celebrity gossip in my double page spread that will be on an artist.

I also then asked what genre of music they would buy a magazine of. I decided not to add in an ‘other’ option as it would leave it too open and there may not have been a consistent answer to help me chose the genre. The top 2 choses were ROCK- Which I would not do as I don’t listen to that genre of music, and R’N’B this is in my comfort zone and I know a lot about it which makes it more fun for me to do.

I then wanted the audience to generally think of their chosen genre and what colour reflects it. This would then give me ideas of possible colour schemes.

The popular 3 where: Black red and White-however some may have chosen the colours based on their favourite colour.

Though the box did not get as much responses, the responses given where useful. The majority of responses said Gold which does reflect Rnb genre – I had not thought of this so it did help me.

I then asked the audience to Rank 1-6 ( 1 being the best) What appeals to them most in a magazine. The pie chart shows how many times the items where voted as number 1 only. This showed me what appeals to people the most in a magazine and what they like to see. So from this I gathered that interviews and latest gossip are what people read magazines for- as they where voted 1 the most amount of times.

The purpose of question 7 was to find out what appeals to people in a magazine. So it would give me ideas of what also to include in my magazine

This question was to help me find out what type of pictures the audience may like to see in magazines. I found out that celebrity was the main attraction in magazines.

If I was to produce a magazine including a free-bee I wanted to find out what would appeal to the general public. Headphones was a clear winner

Finally I asked the audience what price they would pay for a magazine so I had a reasonable price for my magazine. The most vote was £2 this could be because it is the cheapest or most affordable.

Overall my survey gave me basic ideas of what to include in my own magazine.

I have decided to do the genre Rnb as it was voted mostly by the public and also because I feel comfortable and excited to do It.

My target audience is male and females aged 15- 20

My pictures will portray some type of celebrity in my chosen genre of music.

I will have an interview of one of my chosen artists and it will include some gossip about them however still keep the main content music related.
