Mesh Biopsy BagsManufactured from solvent resistant nylon, these Mesh Biopsy Bags are ideal for use in processing small biopsies. They provide excellent fluid exchange and maximum

Paraplast®

Paraplast is recommended for general tissue embedding. It is composed of a refined mixture of highly purified paraffin containing plastic polymers of regulated molecular

weights. This supports improved tissue infiltration and superior quality sections with minimal compression. Paraplast gives brittle, difficult to section tissue an innate

elasticity, promoting wrinkle-free sections. It has a melting point of 56° C.

Paraplast Plus is suggested for large tissue or tissue that may normally present infiltration issues. Paraplast Plus contains a small percentage of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO),

allowing accelerated tissue penetration. It has a melting point of 56° C.

Paraplast Xtra is recommended for lower temperature infiltration which aids in the prevention of tissue distortion. It is composed of a unique blend of low molecular weight

polymers and highly purified paraffins for compression resistance and ribbon continuity. Low viscosity permits complete infiltration of dense tissue. It has a melting point of

52° C.

Blue Ribbon is a universal paraffin containing synthetic polymers that can be used both as an infiltration and embedding medium. The paraffin enables the impregnation of

tissue to occur rapidly and completely. Its low melting point (56 – 57 ºC, water bath temperature 37 – 42 ºC) means it is highly recommended for use with immunoperoxidase

procedures. The wax however will remain stable even at elevated temperatures. It is available in a case of 10 x 2lb (0.91 kg) lightweight bags to facilitate handling.

Chemical Control

Airchek® BadgesAirchek Badges provide an innovative, simple and effective system to monitor vapour levels. Standard badges are available for formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, xylene,

toleune, and isopropanol. The Airchek badges provide continuous sampling for personal monitoring and can give the measurements required under Government

regulations. The badges are simply clipped on to the technician’s clothing and a record is kept of name, location and time. One badge will provide continuous

sampling over 8 hours and a second badge can be used to supply information to analyse a 15-minute period during peak exposure. Both badges are then sent to Leica

Microsystems to be forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for analysis. The analysis is performed using HPLC giving a formaldehyde sensitivity of 0.004

p.p.m. ± 19% at 2.00 p.p.m Once the results are determined, the laboratory receives a report specifying the exposure per individual technician for the appropriate

chemical. It also indicates the results in a format which can be readily compared to the Workplace Exposure Limits.

D-Formalizer® Pad DispenserFor use with the D-Formalizer Pad Rolls, this handy dispenser makes cutting lengths effortless. The metal dispenser will hold a Roll of D-Formalizer Pad securely and

Cut Resistant GloveThe Cut Resistant Glove is manufactured from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, one of the strongest fibers made. While handling sharp cutting instruments, the

Cut Resistant Glove forms a barrier that helps protect the hand from cuts. It is lightweight, seamless and very soft to touch. They can be worn between two latex, vinyl

Nitrile GloveThe Nitrile Glove is made of 100% pure nitrile. It offers a higher level of resistance to nuisance nicks, cuts and abrasions and offers superior splash protection against

irritating chemicals when compared to natural latex or vinyl equivalents. These gloves are just 4 mLs thin and provide excellent tactile sensitivity. After being worn

for a short period of time, the glove conforms to your hand size for greater comfort and reduced perspiration. This special polymer formulation of nitrile does not allow

adhesive label materials to stick to it. Thin nitrile exam gloves are three times more puncture resistant when tested against comparative natural latex and vinyl gloves.

They are 91⁄2” (24cm) long, ambidextrous and have textured fingers for a better grip. They come lightly powdered with cornstarch and now are also available powderless.

D-Formalizer® PadsD-Formalizer Pads reduce formaldehyde exposure by absorbing and neutralising any excess formalin. The durable blue surface of the pads provides an excellent contrast

to even small pieces of tissue. The Pads are also useful for soaking up leakage and de-odourising vapours in other applications. They can be used to line shelves which

hold specimen containers that may seep formaldehyde around the lid, or to line transport boxes where leaks may occur. D-Formalizer Pads are available in various sizes

and also in a convenient roll so that lengths can be cut as required. For best results, the D-Formalizer Pad Roll should be used with the D-Formalizer Pad Dispenser. Pads

D-Formalizer® PowderD-Formalizer is a safe chemical treatment for neutralizing spent formalin. It leaves a clear solution, free of solids and aldehyde odor, that can be disposed of without

clogging the drains. Simply add one packet of D-Formalizer to a gallon of used formalin (or 4% glutaraldehyde) and agitate gently. After 15 minutes, the product can

be safely poured down the drain in compliance with local ordinances. The resulting solution will have a pH between 6 and 9 and will be free of polymer by-product. An

F.C.G.®

Unlike general absorption products, which soak up spillage, F.C.G.® deactivates chemicals and converts formaldehyde into a solid slurry, inert mass of urea-formaldehyde

which can be disposed of as a non-hazardous waste. It is effective on 37% formaldehyde and takes just 10-15 minutes to convert the liquid to a solid slurry. Vapours will

be neutralised in around 7-10 minutes. F.C.G. comes in an easy-to-hold pack containing 680 gm - enough for even large spillages. One side of the container allows F.C.G.

to be poured, the other side allows it to be sprinkled less liberally for smaller incidents. One container of F.C.G. treats approximately 500 mL of 10% Neutral Buffered

Leica CryofectCryofect is a disinfectant spray used in low temperature conditions, such as in cryostats. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses such as HBV, polio or bird flu.

Easy to use, Cryofect minimizes the risks involved in dealing with potentially infectious materials. It can be used at cryochamber temperatures down to -20 °C. Apply the

disinfectant spray evenly on the contaminated surfaces, allow a reaction time of 15 minutes and simply wipe off. This product is not available in the USA.

20 Slide FolderThe 20 Slide Folder is a robust chipboard folder, handmade using a double wall construction. The front slide protection flaps are made to fold back without risk of

damage to the hinge. Each slide is identified with a number and by an index printed on the front. The slides are easily removed simply by touching either end of the slide.

To avoid contamination of the folder by wet sides, the two lid-flaps are indented on the inside. Available per folder, in boxes of 12 folders or cases of 72 folders.

25 Slide BoxThe 25 Slide Box is made of high impact polystyrene to securely hold 25 slides. The slots are numbered, with an index in the lid, which is tight fitting to ensure complete

protection of the slides. When the top of the slide box is removed, each slide projects above the edge of the base enabling easy removal of the slides. There is an

external slot for content labels. This 25 slide box is ideal for the storage of smaller slide collections, to send slides by mail or for use by students and teachers. Available

in white only as individual slide boxes or in cases of 20.

EasyDip™ Slide Staining System

EasyDip™ Slide Staining JarThe staining jar being made of resistant acetal plastic will not break like most glass jars do. It will resist most staining agents including alcohol and xylene (but not

phenol, iodine or ferric chloride ). The wide stable base offers greater stability while the inside is recessed, allowing for a smaller reagent volume of only 80 mL. Easy

to clean and no metals to corrode. Ideal for special stains, frozen sections and special processes. Will resist temperatures between -170 °C and +121 °C. Autoclavable.

Rapid Giemsa Stain KitThe Rapid Giemsa Stain Kit is specially formulated, to produce rapid Romanowsky type staining, on airdried blood and bone marrow smears, as well as non

gynaecological cytology samples such as sputum, urine, fine needle aspirates and tumour imprints. It can also be used to stain microorganisms, protozoa and

spermatozoa. The easy to use kit consists of 3 x 500 mL bottles, containing a fixing solution (Solution A), a red acid dye (Solution B) and a blue basic dye (Solution C). The

kit also contains 5x pH 6.8 buffer tablets to produce a buffered rinsing solution.

Solvents

CleareneClearene is a selected blend of terpenes formulated specifically to replace xylene and toluene in histology and cytology laboratory procedures. It is less oily than other

solvent substitutes and therefore dries quickly and does not leave a residue. Clearene penetrates tissue rapidly without overhardening and is safe to use with all

open and closed system tissue processors. It is miscible with alcohols, paraffins and mounting media. It contains an antioxidant to prevent stain fading. Clearene is

biodegradable and offers the desirable characteristics of a good solvent but not the harmful drawbacks of aromatic hydrocarbons such as xylene and toluene-based

products.

ParaLastLeica ParaLast™ is an easy load, quick exchange solvent specifically manufactured for the Leica ASP6025 processor. Reduce hazardous vapors and paraffin consumption

Sub-X Clearing AgentSub-X is an economical xylene substitute that is an essentially odorless and nongreasy aliphatic hydrocarbon. It can be used in place of xylene for tissue processing,

deparaffinization, clearing and cleanup. Sub-X is a gentle clearant which will not over-harden tissue specimens. It is a non-flammable liquid with a toxicity level three

times safer than xylene. This selective solvent is safe to use with most plastics and tubing in open and closed tissue processors. A compatible mountant such as Sub-X

Alcohols/Acids

Alcohols, Reagent Grade Ethanol, IsopropanolThese Isopropanols and Ethanols are pure filtered and laboratory tested to ensure a consistent high quality for all formulating, processing and staining

procedures in histology and cytology. The Isopropanol is 99% anhydrous and is recommended for small tissue and biopsy processing as well as any other

laboratory procedures requiring Isopropanol.

Decalcifiers

Decalcifier SystemDecalcifier I is a unique decalcifying solution that has the ability to fix and decalcify at the same time. Needle biopsies may be completely fixed and decalcified in one

hour or less. Small bone specimens and calcified arteries may be completely fixed and decalcified in approximately 2-4 hours. It is recommend to use 20 times the

volume of the specimen. Following decalcification, the specimen is ready for processing without first having to wash. Tissues decalcified in this solution cut with ease

and routine H&E techniques produce excellent stained sections. Larger specimens, 3 to 5 millimeters thick, can immediately be placed in Decalcifier I to fix and initiate

decalcification overnight. The following morning, if the specimen is not yet decalcified, transfer it directly to Decalcifier II to complete demineralization that same day.

The Surgipath Decalcifier I-II combination can save valuable time and more importantly, valuable specimens.
