Cove lighting is indirect light built into walls or ceilings. It can be installed in a false pelmet or cornice, shining directly onto the ceiling or down onto the wall, or to surround the perimeter of a room or accent chosen walls for a stylised effect. It can also be used to shine light onto the floor.

The Hera Cove Lighting Profile is an innovative lighting solution using an LED strip for coved lighting. The strip is only 15mm thick and fits discretely into any modern architectural space. It’s completely suitable for cove lighting placed in plasterboard and ceilings. Combine it with LED RGB Line or another Hera linear luminaire for a sleek, modern look.

SYMBOLS & MARKINGS

This symbol applies to discharge lamps. It indicates that these luminaires may be used on non-flammable, flame-retardant or normal flammable building materials in accordance with DIN 4102.

This symbol applies to luminaires with discharge lamps for installation in and on furnishings (furniture). It indicates that these luminaires may be attached in the specified manner to furnishings made of non-flammable, flame-retardant or normal flammable building materials in accordance with DIN 4102, even if they are coated, varnished or veneered.

This symbol applies to luminaires with discharge lamps and luminaires for incandescent lamps for installation in and on furnishings (furniture). It indicates that these luminaires may be attached in the specified manner to furnishings made of non-flammable, flame-retardant or normal flammable building materials according to DIN 4102, even if they are coated, varnished or veneered, but also to materials with an unknown fire response.

INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION (IP) CODE

The IP Code, International Protection Marking, sometimes misinterpreted as Ingress Protection Marking, classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against the intrusion (including body parts such as hands and fingers), of dust, accidental contact, and water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The standard aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as ‘waterproof’.

The digits (characteristic numerals) indicate conformity with the conditions summarised in the tables below. Where there is no protection rating with regard to one of the criteria, the digit is replaced with the letter X.

For example, a luminaire rated IP44 is protected against insertion of solid objects larger than 1mm (such as wire) and will not be damaged or become unsafe during a specified test in which it is exposed to splashing water from any direction.

Safety class symbols:

Safety class I Protective earthing, earthed conductor on the equipment casing

Safety class II Protective insulation

Safety class III Protective low voltage, < 50 V, on luminaires and transformers for luminaires

Types of protection

Type of protection marking consists of the letters IP, followed by two numerals.

The first numeral stands for: Protection of persons against contact or proximity to active parts, against contact with moving parts within the casing, as well as protection of the device against ingress by foreign objects.The second numeral stands for: Protection of the equipment within the casing against damaging ingress of water.
