I moved from my small town to the capital of Sri Lanka after high school and quickly learned that the chartered accountancy qualification opens the door to a vast range of exciting career opportunities in every sector of business and finance. Chartered accountants are in con- stant demand both at home and abroad, for their tech- nical competence, professional standards and veracity. In 2015, you and your wife moved to the U.S. to work in Des Moines. What are your impressions of the city? We live in West Des Moines, and it's a nice, short com- mute to the office. My wife and I love it! I never thought about living here, but while traveling from Bermuda to Des Moines to support the PwC U.S. team for an en- gagement, I started researching the city and it seemed like a great area. Being here has been an incredible ex- perience so far. I feel like you get all the fun and culture of a big city without the downsides. You’ve worked for PwC nearly 10 years. What do you enjoy about the company? The culture. I get to work with smart people and enjoy a flexible work schedule. The firm also offers ongoing training to help us grow our technical skills. It’s a firm of competent, personable professionals and I feel appreciated there. What message do you have for students considering a career in this profession? The demand for the services of CPAs has been growing rapidly in recent years. CPAs are sought after in increasing numbers by organizations in the private and public sectors all over the world. Your career prospects are excellent. You recently agreed to be an ambassador for the Iowa CPA Education Foundation to help the Society raise funds for scholarships. Why is this important to you? Getting an education is expensive and for low income families, it can be prohibitive. Students are graduating with significant debt so this much needed financial as- sistance to accounting students will surely help reduce their financial burden to some extent. And having per- sonally benefited from government scholarship pro- grams in Sri Lanka, I feel it’s really important to continue to award scholarships to needy and qualified students.
