Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayah 43-53) Class  8  -‐‑  April  27,  2013

Introduction  There  is  no  greater  blessing  for  us  other  than  the  Quran.

Allah   said   in   the   Quran   that   he  would   reveal   a   heavy  Qalaam   on   to   the   Prophet.   The   heaviness   is  because  of  the  commands  and  also  because  the  Quran  is  Allah’s  speech.  Once  Angel  Jibreel  brought  the  revelation  when  the  Prophet  SAW  was  on  a  camel,  the  camel  knelt  and  came  down  due  to  the  weight.  The  Prophet  SAW  could  bear  the  heaviness  of  the  revelation  because  Allah  gave  him  the  ability.  At  the  same  time  Allah  said  in  the  Quran  that  he  has  made  it  easy  for  us  to  understand  the  Quran.

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  is  all  about  blessings.  In  the  previous  class  we  studied  about  the  Day  of  Judgment.  After  the  Day  of  Judgment  the  people  are  divided  into  two  groups.  In  Quran  the  group  of  hell  fire  is  mentioned  before   the  group  of  Paradise.  The   same  will  happen  on   the  Day  of   Judgment,   as   first   the  people  of  hell  fire  will  enter  Hell  and  then  the  believers  will  enter  Paradise.  The  people  of  hell  fire  will  be  known  by  their  marks  and  they  will  be  dragged  towards  hell  by  their  feet  and  forehead.

Ayah 37-45 عاقببة االممججرمميننن

Ayah 43

ذههۦ ـ   means  something  “close”.  This  is    ھھھه     .but  pointing  to  something  close    ااسم ااشاررهه

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

2

ذذلك   is   also     ااسم ااشاررهه   but   pointing   to   something   distant/far.   In   the   Quran  ذذلك   is   said   for   the  believers  as   their  status   is  elevated  and  their  position   is  higher.  ذذلك       is  also  used  for  disbelievers  as  they  are  far  away  from  Allah’s  mercy

In  this  Ayah  the  word    ذههۦ ـ   is  used  as  the  Hell  fire  will  not  be  far  from  the  disbelievers  on  the  Day  of ھھھه

Judgment.   Infact   it  will   be   so   close   to   them   that   they  will   see   it  with   their   eyes.   In   the  Duniya,   the  disbelievers  may  feel   that  hell   fire   is   far  away  from  them  and  they  will  not  enter   it.    However  on  the  Day  of  Judgment  the  angels  will  seize  them  and  take  them  to  hell.

جھهنم is  one  of   the  names  of  Hell   fire.   Some   scholars   say   it   is  one  of   the  degrees/   levels  of  Hell   fire

(steps  that  go  down).   جھهنم  is  from  Jahama,  which  is  the  facial  expression  of  someone  who  is  angry,  not

happy.     is  the  place  that  Allah  prepared  for  those  who  disobeyed  him.    In  so  many  Ayat  in  the جھهنم

Quran  there  is  mention  about   جھهنم as  if  it  talks,  hears,  breathes  and  has  feelings.  When  the  people  will

enters  the  hell  fire  the  hell  fire  will  frown  at  them.

  ”means  “which  ٱٱلتى

  ”means  “  denied    بب یيكذ

  ”means  “criminals ٱٱلمجرمونن   بہا

Here   there  are   two  descriptions  mentioned   for   the  people  of  Hellfire.  The   first  one   is     and  the یيكذبب second  is   ٱٱلمجرمونن

  ”means  “constantly  belied یيكذبب

means ٱٱلمجرمونن “criminals”.  Here   criminals   is   used   to   refer   to   the   disbelievers   as   they   commit

crime  against  themselves  by  causing  themselves  destruction  which  results  in  them  entering  hellfire.

Ayah 44

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

3

This  is  a  verb  from  Taaf  which  means  “  doing  Tawaf”  .  Here  it  is  said  that  the  people  of  Hell یيطوفونن

fire  are  very  distressed  and  are  going  around  the  different  places  in  hell  fire.

means  “  going  between  /around”.  The بیينہا here  refers  to  Jahanum   ھھھها

Allah  is  never  unjust  to  his  servants.  No  one  is  greater  than  Allah  who  sends  us  guidance  to  make  us  far  away  from  Hell  fire.  Sometimes  Allah  will  bring  us  guidance  through  trials.  Every  situation  in  our  life,  whether  good  or  bad,   is   a  guiding  message   to  make  us   closer   to  Allah.   It   is  upto  us   to   take   the  message  or  not.  The  disbelievers  entering  hell   fire  will  praise  Allah  because  when   they  will   see   their  book  of  records  they  understand  that  deserve  the  punishment.

”means  “  and  in  between    ووبیين

means  “  boiling  water حمیيم When  people  will  go  between  the  different  levels  of  torture  they  will  get  tired  and  ask  for  a  drink.  At  that  time  they  will  be  given  boiling  water.

”means  “  maximum  heat  /  maximum  cold ءاانن

In  hell  fire  there  are  different  places  of  torture.  Some  are  very  hot  and  others  are  bitter  cold.  Hell  fire  has  two  breaths.  One  when  it  is  the  maximum  high  temperature  (hottest  day  of  the  year)  and  the  other  when  it  is  the  coldest  day  of  the  year.  Both  these  are  breaths  of  Hell  fire.

There   are   different   stages   of   fear.  One   cannot   be   in   fear   all   the   time.   The   fear   should  make   us   seek  refuge   from   Hell   fire   and   make   us   attach   to   Allah.   The   attachment   to   Allah   should   give   us   the  satisfaction.  We  need  to  be  attached  to  Allah,  as  we  cannot  ourselves  protect  us  from  Hell.

There   is  wisdom  behind  the   fear.  Fear   itself   is  not  enough.  Purpose  of   fear   is   to  attach   to  Allah.  Fear  should  cause  a  reaction  in  us  so  that  we  abstain  from  sins.  If  people  only  fear  and  do  not  no  any  actions  then  that  fear  is  of  no  use  and  it  does  not  help.

Ayah 45

Which   of   favors   of   Allah’s   you   both   deny?   The   Ayah   telling   us   about   the   punishment   of   the  disbelievers  is  Rahmah  from  Allah  for  believers  and  the  disbelievers.  It  will  make  the  believer  to  attach  himself  more  to  Allah  and  it  is  a  lesson  for  disbelievers.  Allah  is  warning  the  disbelievers  to  come  close  to   Allah.   Allah   knows   his   creation   so   he   knows   best   the   placement   of   Ayat   ul   Azab   is   suiting   /  benefiting  the  mankind

Ayah 46

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

From   this  Ayah   onward   till   the   end   of   the   Surah   there   is   description   about   Paradise.   There   are   two  groups   of   people   in   Paradise.   There   are   various   levels   in   Paradise.  Now  we  will   see   about   the   first      group  of  the  people  of  Paradise.  First  of  all  we  need  to  see  what  makes  a  person  to  enter  Paradise?  A  person  will  enter  only  due  to  Allah’s  mercy.  In  this  life  we  need  to  do  good  deeds  in  order  to  increase  our  level  in  Paradise.

Allah  will  give  us  the  reward  in  Akhirah  according  to  our  deeds  in  life.

In  this  Ayah  the  actions  are  described  that  makes  a  person  deserve  the  two  gardens  in  Paradise.  Such  a  person  is  afraid  to  stand  in  front  of  Allah.  The  first  action  of  people  of  Paradise  is  the  fear  of  standing  in  front   of  Allah.  Allah   is   the  most   high.  We   should  not   only   be   afraid   from  Allah’s   anger   but   also   be  afraid   of   His   position.   The   thought   that   we   have   to   stand   in   front   of   Allah   should   result   in   fear.  Scholars  are  more  afraid  of  Allah  and  Maqam  Allah  than  hell  fire.

”means  “  as  for  the  one  وولمن

”means  “afraid    خافف

”means  “position  مقامم

”means  “  Lord    رربھهۦWhere  is  the  place  of  Khouf?  This  is  in  the  heart.  If  a  person  is  afraid  he  will  abstain  from  sins.  Here  the  hypocrites  are  excluded  because  they  may  have  outside  action  but  they  don’t  fear  Allah.  There  actions  are  because  they  fear  people,  they  are  afraid  of  their  position  etc.

  ”means  “  two  gardens جنتانن

Such  a  person  has  two  gardens.  One  garden  because  he  left  the  sins  and  the  other  garden  because  he  is  doing  the  obligations.  Fear  will  make  him  to  work  double.  When  one  is  afraid  it  will  make  the  person  to  be  abstain  from  sins  and  the  fear  will  also  make  do  good  deeds.

Ayah 47

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

Which   of   favors   of   Allah’s   you   both   deny?   It   is   a   blessing   from   Allah   that   the   believers   will   be  rewarded  with  two  gardens  due  to  their  fear.  They  will  be  rewarded  for  fear  from  Allah.  When  we  fear  from  Allah  we  are  more  attached  to  him.  And  Allah  will  reward  us  for  this  fear  in  Akhirah.  Due  to  the  fear  a  person  feels  afraid  and  leaves  the  sins.  It  is  fear  that  will  make  us  do  actions  different  from  our  desires.  There  is  a  Hadith  of  Prophet  SAW  that  the  one  who  left  something  for  the  sake  of  Allah,  Allah  will  replace  him  with  something  better.

Ayah 48

What  is   inside  the  gardens  of  Paradise?  In  the  Duniya  we  cannot  enjoy  things  beyond  a  certain  level.  Our  bodies   in   life  are  not  designed  to  have  maximum  reward.  However   in   the  Akhirah  we  can  have  maximum  enjoyment.  The  Prophet  SAW  said  between  us  and  Paradise/Hell   is  distance   like  between  our  shoelace  and  us.  How  in  this  life  we  dream  about  the  things  what  we  desire  like  our  house,  our  jobs

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

7

etc.  Similarly  we  should  dream  about  Paradise.  Even  if  we  dream  and  have  hope,  Allah  appreciates  our  feelings.

The  lowest  person  in  Paradise  will  be  rewarded  10  times  more  than  the  richest  person  who  existed  on  the  earth.  Even  he  will  feel  that  no  one  is  better  than  him.    This  is  because  that  feeling  that  someone  is  better  than  me  will  be  removed  from  our  hearts.

Now  in   this  Ayah   the   trees  of  Paradise  are  mentioned.  We  cannot   imagine   the  beauty  of   the   trees   in  Paradise.

  ”means  “with    ذذذوووااتآ

”means”  young  branches  with  leaves  with  colors  unimaginable أأفنناننن

The  trees  in  Paradise  are  not  like  the  ones  in  Duniya. The  trees  will  be  of  colors  that  we  have  not  seen  before.  The   trees   in  Paradise  will   not   get   old.  The   trees   in  paradise  will   be   the   same   throughout   the  time.  They  will  have  beautiful  shapes.  Some  of  the  trees  in  Paradise  are  too  big.  The  walking  distance  under  the  shade  of  one  tree  is  one  hundred  years.  The  trunk  of  the  trees  in  Paradise  is  made  of  Gold

How  we  can  get  the  trees  in  Paradise  ?

Prophet  SAW  met  Prophet  Ibrahim  AS  on  the  seventh  heaven  in  the  night  of  Miraj.  Prophet  Ibrahim  AS  said  to  Prophet  SAW  to  say  Salam  to  his  Ummah  and  to  tell  them  the  Paradise  is  a  blessed  land  with  sweet  water  and  having  trees  of  Subhan  Allah  ,  Alhumdu  lliah  ,  La  illaha  illa  Allah    and  Allahu  Akbar.

means  springs عينناننن

means  springs تججرياننن

Under   both   the   tents,   houses   or   gardens   there   are   two   springs   running.   There   are   many   Ayat  describing  the  water  in  Paradise.    In  Surah  Insaan  the  water  is  called  Salsabeel.  In  Surah  Mutatafeen  it  is  called  Tasneem.  The  people  in  highest  level  have  Tasneem  as  their  drink.  For  the  people  in  the  lower  levels  the  drinks  will  be  mixed  with  few  drops  of  Tasneem.

Surah  Ar-‐‑Rahman  (Ayah  43-‐‑53)  •  •  •

When  a  person  enters  Paradise  he  will  know  where  is  his  house.  He  will  know  where  to  go  in  Paradise  to  reach  his  house.  A  person  in  Paradise  will  have  a  kingdom  where  he  does  not  get  lost.  The  house  in  Paradise  has  so  many  doors,  one  for  the  servants,  one  for  friends,  one  for  the  angels.

In  the  Paradise  the  rivers  /  water  we  have

1. Pure  Water  2. Honey    3. Milk    4. Wine    -‐‑  the  wine  be  purified  for  the  believers

The  servants  will  serve  the  wine  will  be  like  lulu  Maknoon.  In  Paradise  we  will  have  1000  servants  and  each  will  have  one  specify  duty.  The  servants  will  bring  a  drink  each  time  we  think  of  the  drink.  They  will  serve  in  cups  of  gold  and  silver.  The  quantity  will  be  suiting  us  (not  too  much  or  too  less).

Ayah 53

Which  of  favors  of  Allah’s  you  both  deny?    Anything  we  get  in  this  Duniya  is  blessing  from  Allah.  The  blessing  of  Akhirah  is  forever.  In  Paradise  we  don’t  have  to  be  afraid  that  we  will  get  old,  sick  or  die.  Paradise  solves  all  the  problems  of  Duniya,  sadness,  sickness,  grief  and  old  age.
