The groups also provide milk coupons, bus tickets, healthy snacks and child minding for older children while you attend. Financial Help Talk to your health care provider or attend a Healthy Baby group to find out if you can get the Manitoba Prenatal Benefit. Getting to Appointments Talk to your health care provider about whether you can get transportation to and from your appointment. If you don’t have a health care provider you can call the Family Doctor Connection at 204-786-7111 to find out who is taking new patients in your area. Prenatal care is the care you receive from a health care provider, while you are pregnant.

Women who have regular prenatal care:

• Have healthier babies • Are less likely to have the baby come too early

• Are less likely to have other serious problems with pregnancy

Healthy Baby/Healthy Start Programs

There are also Healthy Baby and Healthy Start for Mom & Me programs where you can receive prenatal care from a midwife.

Crossways in Common102-222 Furby St on the corner of Furby and Broadway. 204-772-1923 ext. 212. The Building Healthy Families program runs here every Thursday from 12:30-2:30pm The midwife is here every other Thursday.

Wolseley Family Place691 Wolseley Ave , on the corner of Wolseley and Sherbrook. 204-949-5350. The prenatal program runs here every second Thursday from 1:30-3:30pm.

Freight HouseDoor 1, 200 Isabel St on the corner of Isabel and Pacific. 204-949-5350. The prenatal program runs here every second Thursday from 1:30-3:30pm

Magnus Eliason Recreational Centre430 Langside St - second floor. 204-949-5350. The prenatal program runs here every second Tuesday from 1:30-3:30pm.

Hope Centre240 Powers St between Burrows and Alfred. 204-949-5350The prenatal program runs here every second Wednesday from 1:30-3:30pm.

Trinity Place Church265 Flora Ave - take the door entrance by the parking lot. 204-949-5350. The prenatal program runs here every second Tuesday from 1:45-3:45pm.

Four Feathers - Gilbert Park1-45A Gilbert Ave. 204-982-4425 or 204-982-4563. The prenatal program runs here Fridays from 1:00-3:30 pm. The midwife is here every other Friday.

The Partners in Inner-city Integrated Prenatal Care (PIIPC) Project was developed to help pregnant women who live in Downtown, North End and Inkster areas of Winnipeg to find, get to and receive prenatal care.

It is important to start prenatal care as soon as you can and to see your doctor, midwife or nurse often.

If you have a regular health care provider contact their office to book an appointment.

If you do not have a regular health care provider, or if it is hard for you to get to your appointments, you can visit one of these care sites and ask for prenatal care:
