Local Calls —• Give the generator crank one short turn to signal

the Operator.• When the Operator answers, give her the number

you are calling.

A Customer on your own Line —• Lift the receiver to make sure the line is clear.• To call another customer on your line, ring the

other party's ring number directly using thegenerator crank.

When You are Through Talking —• Replace the receiver and give the generator crank

a short turn to signal the Operator and othercustomers on your line that you are through withyour conversation.

Emergency Calls from Party Lines —

Please hang up promptly when told the line isneeded for an emergency caU to a fire department,police department, for medical aid or ambulanceservice. The next emergency call may be yours.

To Place a Long Distance Call...After reaching the Long Distance Operator,

give her your call in this order:1. The city and province (or state) that you want,

and the Area Code, if known.2. The telephone number. On person-to-person

calls, include the name of the person you arecalling.

3. If you don't know the number, give the nameand address of the party you are calling.

4. When the operator asks for it, give your number.FOR FASTER SERVICE — CALL BY NUMBER

It's Inexpensive to Call Long Distance . . .The easier and more economical way to call is

station-to-station. This means you will speak withanyone who answers at the called telephone. Chargesbegin when the called telephone is answered.

If you want to speak to a particular person,department or extension, you call person-to-person.Charges begin when the specified person, department or extension answers, and are slightly higherthan station-to-station calls.Long Distance Is Fast . . .

Calls go through in seconds, particularly if youcall by number; so if you'll stay on the line, you'llbe able to start talking promptly.Reduced Evening and Sunday Rates . . .

Low night rates are in effect from 6 p.m. to 4:30a.m. weekdays and all day Sunday. Alberta timedetermines the rate you pay.
