Dear Judson ISD Team: I hope that each of you had a great weekend. I know that it is a busy time of the year. There is always a lot going on. As you know we are all quickly approaching our "big game." Football players have the Super Bowl, Baseball players have the World Series, and College Basketball players have March Madness. I can only imagine the crunch time auditors and accountants are also experiencing as April 15th approaches. Every profession has a critical time of the year.Educators and students have State Accountability and I know that this is a very stressful time for the staff and students. In the life of education we have STAAR and EOC, so our big event is approaching. We are all starting our first round of state accountability testing. This week we begin our first round of many state accountability tests. We start with April 9 ? English I, STAAR Grades 5 & 8 Math, Grade 4 & 7 Writing. April 10 ? STAAR Grades 5 & 8 Reading. April 11?English II. I know how hard all of you have worked to prepare our students. I am a strong believer that many of our students have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful, but some of them just lack the belief in themselves. I appreciate so much the teachers that were willing to be silly, sing, dance, become warriors, or even superheroes all for the sake of encouraging our students. This is a time for all of us to intentionally support our students to just do their best...that's all anyone can do. Please know that I wish each of you the best during this stressful time. We will all be anxiously waiting for the results to come in. I have no doubt that we will be successful. We anticipate that on June 11 we will receive the results for 4th and 7th grade, April 29th we should get the results for 5th and 8th grade and May 29th for English. Yes Our Kids Can is a dynamic new initiative that Judson ISD has launched that focuses on helping young students to visualize what 's possible for them as they grow up. That could be college, technical school, or going straight into a rewarding career after graduation. It 's fun, engaging, and you can tell the kids are loving it and look forward to their time dreaming about what the possibilit ies are as they strive to do their best at school each day.

Kit ty Hawk Choir

Director Mr. Clark dubs them the "3-Peat Elite"

Earning a Sweepstakes at any UIL event is a huge deal because it means the consensus from the judges is that the musical group received top scores in concert

performance and in sight-reading. Kitty Hawk Middle School's Varsity Girls and Boys Choirs won Sweepstakes at UIL for the third straight year. In addition, they both earned perfect scores (1s) from all judges...what an accomplishment. Choir

Director Kenneth Clark calls them the "3-peat Elite." Congratulations to all.

Last May, a Judson HS student achieved something that few accomplish. Cameron White was one of only 193 students out of over 65,000 to make a perfect AP exam score. As a sophomore, Cameron took the AP Computer Science A Exam and scored a 5 which is the highest score achievable on an AP exam. He recently received a letter from the College Board informing him that not only did he earn the highest score possible, but that his score was perfect! This is a first for Judson ISD. No other student has made a perfect score on any AP exam. Congratulations on this accomplishment.

Spotlighting School and Public Libraries

National Library Week (April 7- 13, 2019) is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers, including

our own JISD librarians. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support

entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all. The theme for 2019 National Library Week is "Libraries = Strong

Communities," and Gates Foundation Co-founder Melinda Gates will serve as 2019 National Library Week Honorary Chair.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across

the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.

Let 's show the librarians at each of our campuses how much we appreciate them and how the support our students and the literacy

mission in education.

Mr.John Lambert, who teaches history at Kirby Middle School was nominated and named the Judson ISD Employee of the Month. He was one of 30 nominations this past month. Mr. Lambert was surprised by Dr. Ball this first day of April with the award, but it was not an April Fool's joke...it was the real thing. Mr. Lambert was nominated by Melody Manescu also a Kirby Middle School teacher. He shows a great attitude on a daily basis and his classroom is a place that is decorated to pull students into history and the importance of it. One way he does this is dressing the part of his lesson. When he began a lesson recently on The West, he dressed up as a cowboy and acted the part all day long. Congratulations Mr. John Lambert...our JISD Employee of the Month for April.
