GINA: Was born with super strength. Has been living life as an average kid up until now. Attending this camp will make her an official superhero!

JAMIE: Was born with the ability to see through walls. Has been living life as an average kid up until now. He/She is very nervous about living life as a superhero, but is willing to give it a try!

PAULA: She is the leader of the Superhero Training Camp. A strong but gentle spirit.

BRUTE FORCE: A selfish boy who was born with superhero powers. He has lost sight of what is important in the life of a superhero.

HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO

CAMPER 7: Welcome to the All American Superhero Training Camp!

CAMPER 8: We specialize in finding your inner hero and making that hero soar!

CAMPER 9: From flying fast to fighting foes!

CAMPER 10: From doing the impossible to saving the unsavable!

CAMPER 11: We’re saving lives with a smile!

Gina: This place is unbelievable! We finally made it to Superhero Training Camp!

Jamie: Unbelievable is right… I can’t believe you actually dragged me here. I don’t have what it takes, Gina.

Gina: Come on Jamie. You were born to be a hero. Not everyone is able to see through walls. You gotta learn how to use your powers for good!

Jamie: I’ll give it a try… but if they try and put me in spandex, I’m outta here!

CAMPER 12: Attention superheroes in training! It is our pleasure to introduce the one… the only….

CAMPER 13: The champion crusader and our fearless leader…

Paula: Thank you. Thank you. I would like to welcome you to the 2016 All American Superhero Training Camp. I see a few new faces this year.

Gina: Hi, I’m Gina. I have super strength. And this is my friend, Jamie. She/he can see through walls.

Paula: Impressive. Well, we’re happy to have you here. Why don’t we tell you a little about our motto.

Gina: Motto? What’s a motto?

CAMPER 15: Nothing. What’s a motto with you? (Proudly snickers.

CAMPER 16: Obviously humor is not your super power.

CAMPER 17: Our Camp motto is: There is no mountain too high, No valley too low, and no river too wide for us.

Jamie: I like it. Very inspiring.

CAMPER 18: Just wait til you hear us sing the camp theme song!

SCENE TWO:

Jamie: Maybe this camp won’t be so bad! Just a little singing and dancing. I can handle that!

CAMPER 24: It’s a lot more than just singing and dancing.

CAMPER 25: We go through really tough physical training.

CAMPER 26: Have you ever tried to lift a fallen building off of a baby? You don’t get that kind of strength by singing and dancing.

Paula: They’re right. Being a hero isn’t all fun and games. We strive to train our heroes to bring them to the peak of physical fitness.

Gina: Physical fitness? No problem. You forget I was born with super human strength.

Jamie: Not all of us were. Please don’t tell me we have to run laps…

CAMPER 27: Cardio vascular health is extremely important when it comes to saving lives.

Jamie: Yea… but I just look through walls… how much physical endurance do I really need.

CAMPER 28: Jamie, there’s no avoiding it. We all have to do the training.

Paula: The physical training is designed to make you the best hero you can be. Find the joy in gaining strength Jamie!

CAMPER 29: This training isn’t your typical PE Class.

CAMPER 30: We lift cars, jump over buildings, and scale tall walls!

Jamie: Oh Brother…

Gina: Sounds like a typical Tuesday afternoon for me.

CAMPER 31: Then let’s get started. Tighten your laces heroes! We’re gonna kick it up a notch!

CAMPER 32: Come on, Jamie! You too!

CAMPER 33: I was nervous my first training session too! Lucky for me though… My super power is invisibility so I just hid.

CAMPER 34: Don’t listen to him/her. It’s not that bad! Let’s go!

Gina: You made it Jamie! I’m so proud of you!

Jamie: What’s this weird stuff all over me?

Paula: That’s sweat Jamie. Haven’t you ever broken a sweat before?

Jamie: I guess not… fascinating. (Sniffs under arm.) I NEED DEODORANT!

CAMPER 43: A little perspiration leads to inspiration!

CAMPER 44: Which leads to motivation!

CAMPER 45: Which leads to elevation… which makes us fly!

Jamie: Whoa Whoa Whoa… let’s keep our feet on the ground. I’m just getting started.

CAMPER 46: You both did incredible. I’ve never seen anyone do so well on their first day, Gina. You’re a natural.

CAMPER 47: You lifted two cars at once!

CAMPER 48: To be fair… they were only Mini Coopers… that’s a small car.

CAMPER 49: Still, I think we have to acknowledge the accomplishment.

CAMPER 50: And Jamie you….. looked like you were having a lot of fun out there…

Jamie: I did! Maybe I’ll make it to two pushups tomorrow.

CAMPER 51: You better pace yourself.

Paula: While Physical Fitness is a very important part of being a superhero, you can’t forget that the will to do good Is even more important!

Gina: So we’re not just getting a fitness make over, you’re gonna change our way of thinking too!

CAMPER 52: That’s right! By the time you’re done with camp, you’ll be a Brand New you!

BRAND NEW YOU

CAMPER 53: I SAW THE COVER AND I JUDGED THE BOOK. I TURNED AWAY WITHOUT A SECOND LOOK. BUT NOW NOW NOW I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU! CAMPER 54: I TOLD MYSELF I BETTER RUN AND HIDE I NEVER NOTICED WHAT WAS THERE IN SIDE. BUT NOW NOW NOW I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU! CAMPER 55: AND I CAN’T STOP MYSELF FROM LOVING EVERY ITTY BITTY THING YOU DO! ALL I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU OOH! I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU. CAMPER 56: I DIDN’T KNOW WHERE I WAS MEANT TO BE.

I FIGURED NO ONE WOULD BE THERE FOR ME. BUT NOW NOW NOW I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU! CAMPER 57: I NEVER KNEW THAT I COULD UNDERSTAND BUT I LOOKED UP AND YOU REACHED OUT YOUR HAND. AND NOW NOW NOW I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU! ALL I OPEN MY EYES! AND THERE’S A GREAT BIG WORLD AROUND. I OPEN MY EYES! AND JUST LOOK JUST LOOK LOOK AT WHAT I FOUND. SCENE FOUR:

Brute: Alright Alright, That’s enough happy go lucky for today.

CAMPER 58: Oh… look who it is… Brute Force.

Brute: That’s right. I’m Brute Force. The fiercest Superhero in training this camp has ever seen. And who are you?

Gina: I’m Gina. I have super strength.

Jamie: And I’m Jamie. I can see through walls. Nice to meet you Bruce.

Brute: (With a snarl) The name is Brute.

CAMPER 59: Oh give them a break, this is their first day.

CAMPER 60: Yea Brute, don’t corrupt them yet!

Brute: Corrupt? Who? Me? Never. I simply see that having super powers doesn’t have to be all “save the world” and “protect the people”

CAMPER 61: Yea, you’re more interested in saving yourself.

Gina: Listen Bruno, we don’t want any trouble.

Brute: The name is Brute!

CAMPER 62: Take it easy Brute! We’ve got a lot of training to do.

CAMPER 63: You can either join us, or step aside.

Brute: Step aside? Me? Not my style.

Jamie: Okay, Brit, so what is your style?

Brute: It’s Brute!

CAMPER 64: He just looks out for himself.

CAMPER 65: We call his style “Steppin to the bad side”

Brute: That’s right! And if you two knew what was good for you, you’d join me on the Bad side! (Evil laugh)

Paula: What is going on here? (Sees Brute) Oh, I should have known.

CAMPER 70: It’s the same thing every year. Brute Force and his gang show up and try to recruit for the Bad Side.

CAMPER 71: You two aren’t going to join him, are you?

Gina: Of course not! Wouldn’t even think of it! We’re totally committed to being good guys. Right Jamie?

Jamie silently twiddles his/her thumbs.

Gina: Jamie? Don’t tell me you’re thinking about steppin’ to the bad side?! How could you?

Jamie: I don’t know Gina…. This all comes so easy to you…. I just feel like maybe I don’t have what it takes to be a good guy. Just give me some time to think about it, okay?

Gina: I can’t believe you’re saying this!

CAMPER 72: Calm down, Gina. Jamie is just confused.

CAMPER 73: It’s not easy feeling like an outsider.

CAMPER 74: But that’s no excuse to go to the bad side.

CAMPER 75: This is an outrage!

CAMPER 76: We should kick Jamie out for even thinking about being a bad guy.

Paula: Settle down everyone! That’s enough. Jamie has a hard choice to make and we need to respect that.

CAMPER 78: But Brute Force is no good! He and his gang should just beat it!

Jamie: I think I owe you all an explanation…

Gina: You sure do! What’s going on in that head of yours!

Jamie: I was just having a hard time embracing who I really am. I’m a superhero. And superheroes are the good guys. I’m sorry I forgot who I was for a minute there.

CAMPER 89: That’s okay, Jamie!

CAMPER 90: At least you know who you are now!

CAMPER 91: You’re one of us!

CAMPER 92: One of the good guys!

Gina: That’s right Jamie. We’re both good guys. And we’re going to go through all of this together.

CAMPER 93: Like Batman and Robin!

Paula: We’re all here for you. It’s important that we remember that we’re all in this together each step of the way.

CAMPER 94: We’ve got your back.

CAMPER 102: I would reveal my secret identity if meant keeping any of you safe.

CAMPER 104: It’s graduation day Brute, do you wanna be a good guy or a bad guy?

Brute: I’m either fighting with you or against you… and I guess I’d rather be fighting with you.

Paula: I knew you’d make the right choice Brute! I’m very proud of you.

CAMPER 105: Way to go Brute. We’re here for you!

Gina: Well, I just want to thank you all for helping us through Superhero Training Camp. It’s been an incredible experience.

Jamie: You all have really welcomed us into the superhero realm with open arms. I really feel like a superhero now ya know? I feel invincible! It rocks!
