• When the points of integration are not well defined

• When security is so much of a risk that organization just cannot trust systems that it does not completely control.

• When control is critical to business. If organization cannot afford to outsource a critical component to anybody who is less than 100% reliable, then cloud computing is not right for it.

• When the core internal enterprise architecture is broken. If enterprise architecture is dysfunctional, then extending it out to cloud-delivered platforms is not a good idea.

it strategy involves adopting public cloud

infrastructure for online booking and he

aims to have RoH’s content infrastructure

in the cloud with a “web 2.0” perspective.

“it is simple – put the content in its natural habitat on the internet. so we upload

videos on youtube and photos on flickr and

bring it all together,” he says.

the organisation is using a private cloud

setup to host its financial systems and

process the payment transactions. “With

compliance issues, you need to know where

sensitive data resides and it has to be inhouse, but for occasional peaks you need

shared cloud’s scalability,” says Greig.

“the hybrid model is the route forward in

the cloud. some cios want to actually see

where their servers are. that is so 2008!

“cloud is a different architecture and you

need to think about it differently to see its

value. think about cloud as an application

not as a remote server room to which you

load workloads traditionally.

• 5. HaaS - Hardware as a Service

• Hardware as a Service is more than just leasing PCs. HaaS providers typically deal with the full desktop lifecycle including procurement and replacement of PCs, proactive patching and OS level software and IT monitoring. It's usually a pay-as-you-go or subscription model. Some definitions of HaaS includes other IT hardware. For this list, I refer to this as IaaS or Infrastructure as a Service. I found that Haas providers served a local market. I am sure this will change in the coming years.

• 3. DaaS - Desktop as a Service

• Desktop as a Service (Daas) represents a new paradigm of desktop applications. We are used to Microsoft Office or our favorite accounting application being installed and run on our local computer. This works fine but when you need to deploy an upgrade or patch one of the subsystems, this scenario becomes very inefficient. Multiply this by a company with 10,000 desktop PCs and you see what kind of overhead this can result in.

• DaaS results in a virtual desktop delivered on demand. While many of the "as a Service" solutions are delivered from the clould, Desktop as a Service applications can be delivered from the cloud or just delivered from the organization's data center. Local applications can be delivered remotely using technology from VMWare or Citrix s well as others. There is a trend in this space for Desktop as a Service (DaaS).
