DIRECTOR ’S NOTES

I have had the pleasure of directing a number of plays for various community theatre groups and professional groups in state and out of state. Each production brings its’ own set of circumstances that forces one to rise to the occasion. As a director, you learn to adjust, change priorities, beg and do all those things that hopefully brings about a successful production. Theoretically this is done in an atmosphere of enjoy-ment.. Besides the actors and the Director there is a myriad of others who are involved. One of the ‘others’ is you the audience. I hope the time and effort we have put forth brings you all much enjoyment. Without you there is nothing. Thank you for your con-tinued patronage. On a second note, while I have worked with many theatre groups I have always considered Sunset home. I feel very fortunate to have come home once again, since first setting foot on the Sunset stage in the ‘70’s. My wife, Kay whom I met at Sunset was in the first Production. She was minus 10 at the time.

Scott Bahr (Mortimer Brewster) Scott has been involved with theatre on stage and behind the scenes since he was in middle school--managing,

directing, and acting with many local community theatre groups. Favorite roles include James in THE RED HERRING and Inspector Troughton in RUN FOR YOUR WIFE with the Bay Players. On the East Coast, he appeared as Buddy in COME BLOW YOUR HORN, Nels in I REMEMBER MAMA, and as Leonard Ganz in RUMORS. Scott wants to thank his children, Joseph and Sebastian, and his wife, Jennifer, for their understanding of a tough schedule and help with running lines. Thank you for supporting local theatre; sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Jean Casey (Stage Manager) Since Jean’s debut in 1974’s AND MISS REARDON DRINKS A LITTLE, she has worked on props, costumes, lights, set

construction, and other miscellaneous activities. Stage managing remains her favorite task. In fact, she managed ARSENIC AND OLD LACE in 1977. Blissfully retired from her career as a library media specialist, Jean’s happy to be back in the Stage Manager’s corner. Thanks, Danny, for letting me “play” again.

Dan Esposito (Director) Dan had ‘em rolling in the aisles of a Broadway theatre--until the usher came and picked up the dice. He has

delighted Milwaukee area audiences in such roles as Mel in PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE, Walter in DON’T DRINK THE WATER, Roy in PLAZA SUITE, Murray in A THOUSAND CLOWNS, Luther Billis in SOUTH PACIFIC, and--his all-time favorite--Oscar in THE ODD COUPLE. Dan and wife Kay spend half the year in Florida, where his credits include A

LITTLE FAMILY BUSINESS, TEASERS, and COME BLOW YOUR HORN with the Delray Beach Playhouse, and OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS in Lake Worth. Among his directing credits, he is most proud of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST and OF MICE AND MEN.

Kay Esposito Kay taught literature in Brookfield for 25 years and worked with several theatres in the Milwaukee area. Among her favorite roles are Lizzy

in THE RAINMAKER, Aldonza in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Mrs. Lovett in SWEENEY TODD, Nurse Ratched in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, Mother Miriam in AGNES OF GOD, Norma in PLAZA SUITE, and Emily Dickinson in THE BELLE OF AMHERST, directed by husband Dan. Since moving to Florida, Kay has worked with the Delray Beach Playhouse (A LITTLE FAMILY BUSINESS and COME BLOW YOUR HORN), and in Lake Worth (OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS), and is delight-ed to be working once again with her favorite director, Dan!

Victoria Metz Heckman (Martha) For Vicky, the acting bug called while she was singing with the Milwaukee Metropoli-tan Voices, painting scenery, and sewing

in the costume shop. This is her first production at Sunset but her acting resume includes OKLAHOMA!, LI’L ABNER, SOUTH PACIFIC, THE MIRACLE WORKER, THE WIZARD OF OZ, COME BLOW YOUR HORN, PINOCCHIO, SONS OF LIBERTY, and as an extra in the local movie SOMETHING FOR STEVIE.

Bill Hitt (Officer Klein)A stage veteran, tonight marks Bill’s Sunset Playhouse debut. He was seen most recently as Constable Locke in MUSIC MAN and

Mr. Van Daan in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK at Imagination Theater, and as Bob Cratchet in CHRISTMAS CAROL at Mukwonago Village Players. Bill is also very thankful for this, his third, oppor-tunity to perform under the direction of Dan Esposito. Bill and wife Michele reside in Richfield.

Andrew Lien (Jonathan Brewster)Andy is happy to be back at Sunset, even if it means taking a break from his be-loved “Yooper” accent. He’d like to thank a

great cast and crew for making this play a joy, as well as Dan Esposito for provid-ing an authentic New York accent (and attitude) to imitate. A special thanks to family and friends and, as always, he’d like to thank Kelsey and Maddie for their love and support.

Mark McGuire (Rev. Harper) Retired from the federal government, Mark lives in Oak Creek with his cat, Knucklehead. ARSE-NIC AND OLD LACE is

Mark’s first play at Sunset and his sixth play since he started acting less than two years ago. He has also worked with the Grant Park Players in South Milwau-kee and the Racine Theatre Guild. In addition, Mark has been an extra in four locally-produced films in such parts as a barfly and a zombie. He has thoroughly enjoyed his experience with Sunset and would like to thank everyone who worked on the show.

Paul Pfannenstiel (Mr. Witherspoon)Paul is happy to be returning to Sunset after being away for a while. Previous Playhouse credits include THE BOYS

NEXT DOOR; THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR; SORRY, WRONG CHIMNEY; and PAWNS. He has appeared with a number of other groups in the area

such as Soulstice Theater and Off the Wall Theater, and recently performed in CANNIBAL THE MUSICAL at Alche-mist Theater with Bad Example Pro-ductions. He hopes you enjoy the show and watch out for what you drink.

Stephanie Pluta (Elaine)Stephanie is thrilled to be making her debut on the Sunset stage. This will be her second time performing in this

“toxically” hilarious show. Currently seeking a BFA degree in sculpture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, this show has been a wonderful excuse to get her out of the studio and back on the stage. Much thanks to her fam-ily and friends for their ongoing love and support. Cheers!

Michael Pocaro (Teddy Brewster)Michael is excited to join his first produc-tion with Sunset Playhouse after many years in Milwaukee area theatre. A gradu-

ate of UWM’s Professional Theatre Train-ing Program (PTTP), he has performed with Bialystock and Bloom, Skylight Op-era, Milwaukee Shakespeare, First Stage, and Broadway Baby Dinner Theatre, as well as community and professional theatres in California, Oregon, Idaho, Virginia, and Colorado. Favorite roles? Quite possibly Teddy in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE or Sefton in STALAG 17.

Veronica Quirk (Assistant Stage Manager/Assistant Properties Mistress)Veronica has joined the Sunset Playhouse com-munity after a ten

year break from acting where she participated in plays and competed in Forensics meets all over the state. As Assistant Stage Manager and Assistant Props Mistress, she has loved watch-ing the characters develop and thanks

the cast and crew for taking her along for the ride as she dives back into the preforming arts world.

John Roberts (Dr. Einstein)John is proud to be back on the Sunset stage where’s he’s been seen in RU-MORS, SOCIAL SECU-RITY, and INSPECTING

CAROL. In addition to these productions, favorite roles include Max in LEND ME A TENOR, Wilson in HARVEY, and Saul in PLAY ON. John thanks his parents, family, and friends for their continued support and interest in his acting venture! He would also like to thank Sunset Play-house for allowing him to be a part of another great cast and production.

Andrew Sierszyn (Scenic Designer) A recent graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran College with a double major in Theatre and Art, Andrew is making his Sunset Playhouse

debut. He is currently living in Illinois, working toward an MFA in scenic design at Illinois State University. Andrew would like to thank Sarah, Jonathan, and Michael for giving him this opportunity that has become yet another stepping stone in the path to becoming a profes-sional designer.

Michael Skocir (Officer Brophy) Michael is thrilled to appear in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, his second Sunset production. Michael recently performed at

Sunset this past spring with the outstanding cast of LOVE, SEX, AND THE I.R.S. and only four days ago closed BAREFOOT IN THE PARK playing the role of Paul Bratter for the SummerStage of Delafield. Seasoned over the past 10 years by appearing in close to 30 productions in the Milwaukee area, some favorites include A Chorus Line, Oliver, Gypsy, Rumors, Arsenic & Old Lace

(8 years ago), & No Sex Please, We’re British. Michael will next be appearing in the fall production of The Importance Of Being Earnest, for The World’s Stage Theatre Company. Thanks to a sublime Arsenic cast, outstanding Sunset management, and his family and friends for their continued support.

DJ Slater (Officer O’Hara)A Milwaukee native, DJ has been acting since middle school but took a break from 2002-2008. He returned to acting in

three Wausau productions, A CHRIST-MAS CAROL, FUNNY GIRL, and PICNIC, as well as one Sunset production, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. DJ is grateful to be a part of tonight’s production, and even more so to his family, Care Bear, and Winston for supporting him all these years.

Christopher Smith (Lt. Rooney)Christopher is very ex-cited (and VERY thank-ful) to be making his community theatre debut with Sunset. He would like to thank

SO many people (the VERY thankful part): his wife Cheryl, and children Jonathan and Rebekah--for their love, support, and encouraging him to act again--and a special thank you to all of our friends and co-workers, as well as to the cast and crew. A VERY special thank you to Danny for this opportunity.

Marty Wallner (Lighting Designer)Marty has volun-teered at Sunset for the past 37 years. His efforts have gone into hundreds of shows in various capacities,

including dozens of lighting designs. He has used arsenic in rodent poisons and he has used old lace as a paint stencil.

Pat Westen (Scene Shop Coordinator)Pat has worked with her husband Mark on set construction on every set since 1996. She feels that Michael Desper is the best in

designing and building sets, and if you have any interest you should work with Michael and all the other great people who help. Pat and Mark also help with props and cast dinners. Thanks go out to all the people who help with the construction. It was nice working with Andrew for ARSENIC AND OLD LACE.

Erica Ziino (Proper-ties Mistress)Even though Panama is not on Erica’s travel wish list, she may find herself, inevitably, there one day. But be-fore that happens, she

anticipates collecting a few more stamps in her passport to reflect journeys through Ireland, Scotland, India, Greece, and Turkey (not all in one trip). Single, but not lonely, she hopes not to fall prey to the well-intentions of those like Abby and Martha. With two plays under her belt (YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE, and LOVE, SEX, AND THE IRS), Erica has volunteered to be the Props Mistress, once again, for ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. Over the past five years, Erica has also worked with props, set con-struction, house managing and ushering at the Sunset Playhouse.

The Sunset Playhouse is located in the heart of downtown Elm Grove at 800 Elm Grove Road.

BOX OFFICE is open from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Saturdays. The Box Office is open one hour prior to any performance through intermission. The Box Office can be reached at (262) 782-4430.

BUSINESS OFFICE is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. It can be reached by calling (262) 782-4431 ext. 221.

TICKETS can be purchased in person during our above Box Office hours using cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Tickets can be purchased over the phone using a credit card; please be aware that there is a $1 per ticket fee for all phone, mail, and fax orders. All sales are final. Exchanges must be done in advance and must be made for a different performance of the same show. Prices for the 2011-2012 Season have changed and are as follows:
