Opening Song

Prayer after Communion

The bread has been broken, the cup has been poured, the meal has been shared. Gracious God, we give thanks for bread for the journey, for your wisdom guiding us along the way. May there be friends to share the road as we dare to dream of creation renewed, and hope in the promise of justice for all. Amen.

Community News

• Please mark your calendar for an all-community conversation, Zoom and in person, to discern where we want to plant ourselves after Labor Day. Wednesday, August 26th at 6:30. We will meet in the EPUMC fellowship Hall.

Greeting

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. And also with you.

Prayer of Thanksgiving (cont.)

4. We gather to remember the stories that Jesus’ friends tell, stories of bread broken and shared, feeding a multitude, stories of being gathered together, enemy and friend, around tables, stories of unlikely guests revealing the face of the sacred. They say that that it was on a night of both celebration and betrayal that He took bread and gave you thanks and praise; he broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take this, all of you, and eat it: This is my body, which will be given up for you.

When supper was ended, he took the cup; again he gave you thanks and praise, he gave the cup to his disciples, and said: Take this all of you and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and ever-lasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be for-given. Do this in memory of me. Concelebrant. In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, holy God, this life-giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit. Great is the mystery of faith. Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Presider: Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with Rafe our bishop and all who seek to know you. Remember our loved ones who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence. Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the Mother of God, Joseph her husband, the apostles, and all the saints and ancestors who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in un-ion with them, and give you glory through your son Jesus Christ. For we believe that it is: Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty God, forever and ever. Amen.

5. Filled with new life and called to love others as he has loved us, let us pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us: Our Father....

6. Loving God, though we come to your Table as many, make us one body and one spir-it in you. Just as you feed us with the Bread of Life, may we feed those who know true hunger; just as your justice illumines our hearts' darkness, may we be a beacon to the oppressed and lost; just as you speak to us the truth in love, may we be a voice for the powerless and forgotten; just as you restore us to wholeness, may we bind up our shat-tered world. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace. Presider: These gifts of bread and wine, holy food for holy people. Be what you see; receive who you are. Amen

Our Reconciliation with God and Each Other Holy God, we do not deserve to be in your dwelling place. We have not led a blameless life. We have not done what is right in your sight or spoken the truth that you have sealed in our hearts. We have done evil to both those we love and to those we refuse to love as we should. We have not been faithful stewards of that which we have been blessed and have hoarded that which should be shared with the least of these. Hear our cry, God of our hope, as we confess that which weighs us down.

(We pause to reflect)

Redeeming God, save us from our foolishness and guide us to your wisdom. Gather us in your righteousness and redemption. Forgive us for we are seeking your light and your salvation. Cleanse us of our brokenness that we might do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.

May our Loving God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us all to everlast-ing life. Amen

Opening Prayer Here, Jesus speaks to us; the voice of our Jesus sounds in our hearts: calling us to generous acts, to share the gifts we have been given. Now, Jesus speaks to us; the voice of our Jesus sounds in our land: calling us to generous acts, to open our hearts to all in need. In every place, in every moment, Jesus speaks to us; his voice sounds in all creation: calling us to generous acts, to stand with God's people: the least, the lost, the little, the last. Amen

Presentation of the Gifts Presider: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God for ever. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. Blessed be God for ever. Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at our hands, for the praise and glo-ry of God’s name, for our good, and the good of all the Church.

Prayer of Thanksgiving Presider: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise 1. Our greatest joy is to offer you our thanks and praise, bread-giving God. All that is beau-tiful was created for our eyes; all that is wonderful was created for our awe; all that is ma-jestic was created for our praise; all that is mystery was created for our silence. 2. But despite everything you have given us, we were not satisfied. Believing life is about our appetites, we choose the moldy bread of the world. Knowing our only hope is from you, we continued to rebel. Called to live in unity with one another, we held onto all which divides us. Yet you refuse to let go of us, sending your only Son, Jesus, to call us to life in you. We have fallen, and you lift us up; we have forsaken you, and you redeem us; we are broken, and you make us whole. 3. Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices, here and now, with the faithful of every time and place, singing to the glory of your name: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! Presider: Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come up-

on these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body + and blood of

our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer of Belief A Creed from South Africa We believe that God is at work in our world turning hopeless and evil situations into good. We believe that goodness and justice and love will triumph in the end, and that tyranny and oppression cannot last forever. One day “all tears will be wiped away” And “the lamb will lie down with the lion.” True peace and true reconciliation are not only desirable, They are assured and guaranteed. This is our faith and our hope. We profess it in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful We thank you, O God, that you have given us an enduring hope—one which cannot dis-appoint us or mislead us. We thank you, that through our faith in you and in your Son Jesus Christ, you enter into every believing heart and transform lives. Hear the prayers we offer this day. For whom and for what else do we want to pray today? (We offer our prayers and respond, Lord Hear Our Prayer.) We ask all this of you, O God, knowing that you are our hope and our salvation, a very present help in times of trouble, and the One whose purpose is to grant and new and abundant life to us and our world. Praise be to your name. Amen
