CURRENT SERMON SERIES: Dissonance

“Lost at Home”

“Dissonance”- a mingling of sounds that strike the ear harshly; a mingling of discordant sounds; lack of harmony among musical notes.

In every life, harmony and peace coexist with disharmony and conflict. They intermingle in our relationships and in the larger world. Our Christian faith acknowledges the dissonance in life and the power of sin and evil. Evil is that which seeks to interrupt the creative harmony of God’s love song in the world. We sin when we cooperate with the forces of alienation and destruction. During Lent, we reflect on the reality of sin and the gift of confession using the parable of the prodigal son. This classic story assures us that we dwell in God’s grace even when we go astray. Join us as we discover again the recreative power of God’s mercy, love, and grace!

Sermon Lost at Home Ginger E. Gaines-Cirelli Invitation to the Sacrament of Holy CommunionWe celebrate an open communion table with bread and grape juice. All are welcome to participate. Gluten-free elements are available on the left side of the center aisle.

Prayer of Confession* Eternal and Almighty God, you have long sought us and we have fled. You have offered us an easy yoke, and we have tied ourselves down with cares and burdens. You have forgiven us, and we have complained against our siblings. Give us a conversion that turns us around to face the light; teach us a repentance that lives in works of love; lead us into the narrow path; guide us through the valley of the shadow of death. Call us to follow Jesus Christ and, in His way, to live and suffer, die and rise again. Amen.

...And all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join in their unending hymn, singing:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Blest is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

...And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving, as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith, singing:

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the Highest! Hosanna in the highest!

...All honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever:

Amen. Amen. Amen. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the Highest! Hosanna in the highest!

+Call to Worship* T.C. Morrow

One Voice: We gather this day to worship our God, whose words and ways challenge us.

Many Voices: God calls us to be fools in the world to show forth the wisdom of Christ.

God urges us to empty ourselves to discover life’s fullness. God bids us to be obedient to a divine will so we might know true freedom. We come to worship our Creator, seeking to be challenged and to grow. We come seeking nourishment for our spirits in this growing season of Lent.

Mission Possible: Your Gifts At WorkFoundry’s Mission Possible capital campaign is making tremendous progress because of you!

The installation of three new energy-efficient air handlers is complete. The air handlers include three new humidifiers, which will regulate the humidity in the sanctuary. The air handlers and humidifiers will also help with our organ’s performance.

Speaking of the organ, its renovation is halfway complete. It is scheduled to undergo two more stages of upgrades that will occur as Mission Possible Phase II funding allows. The organ is fundamental to Foundry’s special music ministry and its renovation will ensure that future generations of our church family can be touched with God’s message through its instrumental sound.

The air handlers and organ renovation progress are two key goals of Mission Possible Phase II that could not have been achieved without you. We continue to welcome your contributions and pledges of financial gifts over the next two years and thank you for your prayers, commitments and gifts!
